Freedom of choice

"... The freedom that you often talk about is just 'freedom of select', a prerequisite ." -- Wei Hui Shanghai Baby

The previous section has been discussing the selection of Server OS on the blog, as well as the diversity of languages. In the final analysis, it is about the freedom of choice.

In fact, there is no such thing as absolute freedom. The freedom we can get is only the freedom of choice. The difference is that there are more or less options available.

Windows has millions of benefits, but it is not a problem. In many cases, UNIX, Linux ...... It will be a better choice-even if you don't like it, they still provide you with the freedom to choose.

The same is true for languages. C # and Java are almost omnipotent, but C, assembly, COBOL ...... There is still a market-you can not learn, but cannot deprive others of the freedom to choose.

GC is also available. GC is good, but GC performance is no better than the sub esp of the stack model. XXX is efficient-this is the root cause of my opposition to increasing GC in C, I just want to keep an option that does not require GC.

GPL V3 has been criticized since it was proposed. The root cause is that the provision of forced open source has deprived others of the freedom to not open source, this is also the main reason why I have never liked GPL very much-my native applications.ProgramGPL is never used.

In the Python web framework, Django is undoubtedly a good stuff and a solution of all in one-it includes the Web tamplate from the back-end o/R mapping to the front-end, the most important thing is that it has good performance. However, I have switched to turbogears because it provides more options. For example, in addition to using the default sqlobject, you can also select sqlalchemy (it is said that Django now supports sqlalchemy), and the web template has more options, from the default kid to the same Jinja as Django, and genshi.

Of course, you can also extend it out, but it is not safe.

Supplement the response of Linus Torvalds to GPL provided by sanfire:
"By being pragmatic and not being too crazy about it, the 'open source' people ended up making open source a lot more accessible to a lot more users, and they made the software better, too. because when you make your technical choices on technical grounds, rather than on religious ones, they end up being better."
