Create an Effect

When you run FX Composer2 for the first time, the StartPage page will appear. This page is convenient for you to access some common functions.

Let's first create a new Effect. On the StartPage page, select New Effect in the Tasks column.

A wizard will pop up later to guide you through creating a new Effect.

The wizard prompts you about the type of the shadow program you want to add. Select. fx and. cgfx, set the Effect name to "Phong_Bump_Effect", and set the Material name to "Phong_Bump_Material ".

You may think about the differences between Material and Effect. an "Effect" is a shadow. A "Material" is an instance with a specific Effect attribute. material is the object in your real application scenario.

The advantage of both Effect and Material is that you can modify multiple rendering codes based on the same Effect at the same time. if there is no Material system, you will need to create a coloring program for each Material and modify them separately.

Click Next. Now you need to select a template (Templetes ).

Select the Phong Bump Reflect template, click Next, select the same template for. cgfx, and click Finish.

You will see a circular Material panel, which uses the Effect you set (Effect ).

You can Create a Sphere by clicking the Create Sphere icon in the toolbar above. this model will appear in the coordinate origin of the world, so it will appear in the center of the tire. (make sure that the Direct3D label of the rendering panel is active ).

Scroll the property panel to find the Specular Power parameter and adjust it to 7. At the same time, you will dynamically see the changes in the rendering panel.

Perform the same operation on the Ambient Light parameter. Because this property is a color, you can use the HDR color picker of FX Composer to select a new color. while changing the value, the rendering panel will also change in real time.

Add texture

Take a closer look at the attribute bar and you will find many textures: diffuse Texture, Normal-Map Texture, and Environment.

FX Composer has a Texture panel that works with specific 2D, 3D, and cube textures. You can click the Texture command in the view menu to display the panel.

Click the plus sign on the texture panel to add a new image. You can drag the image directly from the file browser.

In the dialog box, select:

FX Composer 2/MEDIA/textures/2D/rockwall.jpg

You will see rockwall.jpg in the texture. Double-click the texture to get more details.

Drag the image to the tire and you will be prompted which texture will be replaced. Select the diffuse texture. Note that the texture of the sphere and tire will change because they use the same material.

Click Add Spotlight (on the main toolbar) to Add a point light source to the scene. This light source is generated on the world coordinate origin, so it is covered by tires. on the rendering panel, click Translate Object. now you will see the axis of the light source, adjust each axis, place the light source above the tire and sphere. click Select Object in the rendering panel, Select the light source, and drag it to the tire to automatically bind the light source.
