Gamma calibration in Video System

Gamma calibration was first used to correct the effect of a CRT display, and later non-CRT displays were compatible with the GAMMA value of a CRT display.

The brightness value produced by the transform function of most CRT monitors is proportional to a certain amount of energy (called gamma) of the signal amplitude ). Therefore, the range of high brightness is extended, while the range of low brightness is compressed. In terms of noise suppression, this is an advantage because human eyes are sensitive to equal relative brightness changes. The gamma calibration of the video signal before the launch, the brightness output of the display is generally linear, and the noise generated during the launch process is also restrained.
To minimize the noise in the dark area of the image, the modern video system limits the curve gain in the black area. This technique limits the gain close to the Black and extends the rest of the curve to maintain the continuity of the function and the normal cut.
Non-CRT displays have different display transformation formulas. To simplify the design, a non-CRT display is designed to receive standard gamma calibration videos and compensate for the actual transformation of the display panel.
