According to reports that Google and Microsoft are competing in the Internet market and joining hands with IBM to attack Microsoft's hinterland-desktop market-is not true.
On November 3, May 20, Google CEO Eric Schmidt pointed out that there are reports that Google and Microsoft are competing in the Internet market, at the same time, it is false to join IBM in attacking Microsoft's hinterland-desktop market.
At the IT/xpo 2005 seminar organized by Gartner, a market research institute, he pointed out that, according to Microsoft, IT takes 10 years for a newbie to access internet services. Yahoo is Google's main competitor. "20 years ago, the PC market was fiercely competitive. It took about 10 years to integrate the PC industry. It takes the same time in the Internet market. Microsoft is the new internet army, and it takes time to adjust its business ."
However, Google does not leave too much time for Microsoft to compete in the desktop market. In May 18, Google launched a new search tool, which is estimated to receive 0.1 billion Lotus Notes orders. Google's enterprise edition search tool can search for files in Office, AOL, IE, Firefox, and other formats. This search tool allows users to download it for free and integrates various functions such as desktop search, enterprise intranet, and Internet.
IBM will continue to develop cross-platform and cross-product programs with Google based On the On Demand Workplace strategy. Google launched the enterprise desktop search tool before Microsoft's next-generation operating system, nagarjune, which integrates desktop search and Internet search functions. Schmidt said the company will compete with Microsoft in the desktop market, so the product features will be "more powerful, faster and more integrated ."
He pointed out that Google will continue to compete with its competitors in two markets. First, personalized services. He joked that this work has not been completed for Google search engines with 0.6 billion million users, and the market is quite broad for Google and Yahoo. The second is to provide a comprehensive access mode for information in different places and formats.
Schmidt said the company will expand its business scope, mainly online advertising business. According to market research Gartner, online advertising revenue accounts for 98% of Google's revenue. However, in the short term, the company will not adjust the business. "The online advertising model is rich in content and we will not adjust it currently ." He said that Google's online advertising model is changing the model of traditional media companies. However, he did not explain whether Google would use its powerful online content and rich resource advantages to transform itself into a media company.
