How to use the Visualesxtop tool

Many VMware engineers know the importance of esxtop/rextop in troubleshooting, performance detection scenarios, and generally we can connect to ESXi hosts through various shell tools, and the default input Esxtop displays the CPU-related information panel

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image001 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;padding-right:0px, "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image001 "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M02/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7J7TSXJPAAVLof7CdBU882.png "height=" 479 "/>

Of course we can switch to different information panels by entering the relevant letters after entering Esxtop.

c = CPU

m = Memory (RAM)

n = Network (NET)

i = Interrupts (interrupt)

d = Disk Adapter (diskette adapter)

u = Disk device (includes NFS as of 4.0 Update 2)

v = Disk VM (diskette virtual machine)

P = Power States (Power management)

Switch directly to the memory-related information panel when you enter M

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image002 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;padding-right:0px, "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image002 "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M00/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7Kbx1sWHAAcHypogR3A185.png "height=" 550 "/>

However, it is relatively not intuitive and graphical to view the relevant Esxtop parameters through the default Shell tool; In VMware Labs we can find a tool called visualesxtop to achieve more intuitive and graphical esxtop commands;

You can find instructions and download the documentation at the links below Https://labs.vmware.com/flings/visualesxtop

Download Visualesxtop to Local

Unzip the file

Open the Unpacked folder, double-click and run Vtop.bat (requires Java in the computer)

In the pop-up VMware vtop, click File--connect to Live Server

Then enter the IP address and credentials of the ESXi host or vcenter server you want to view

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image003 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-right:0px; "border=" 0 "alt = "clip_image003" src= "Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M01/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7KeSfHuKAACfG3RxEwU709.png" height= "746"/>

Open the Visualesxtop interface as follows:

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image004 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-right:0px; "border=" 0 "alt = "clip_image004" src= "Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M00/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7KiznR0RAABqwqHmiQU028.png" height= "746"/>

If you want to monitor multiple objects at the same time, perform multiple connect to Live Server

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image005 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;padding-right:0px, "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image005 "src=" Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M01/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7KvhkbsVAAMX5ybVtI8203.png "height=" 376 "/>

By default, the Esxtop refresh interval is 5 seconds, and if we want to change the time interval for this refresh, click Configuration--change Interval Enter the desired time interval, the default unit is seconds, Change to 2 seconds (Esxtop minimum refresh interval is 2 seconds)

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image006 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-right:0px; "border=" 0 "alt = "clip_image006" src= "Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M02/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7KvRKhYxAAAi7RyXnjk178.png" height= "173"/>

Switch to the CPU panel to see the information you see through esxtop, just visualesxtop to show it in a more intuitive way

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image007 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;padding-right:0px, "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image007 "src=" Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M02/7D/1A/wKioL1bf7TPwjJpCAAR2sW38hyY344.png "height=" 553 "/>

In the filter box above, you can also find that it provides a filtering tool that allows you to filter out the rows and columns for specific performance thresholds, primarily through column filter and comparison and subsequent value The tool can be used to monitor specific VMS or related performance thresholds.

The following example is filtering a VM with a write delay greater than 2 through disk VSCSI

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image008 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-right:0px; "border=" 0 "alt = "clip_image008" src= "http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M02/7D/1A/wKioL1bf7TPBf3_vAAAxcrPXLLY340.png" height= "187"/>

It will show the relevant objects (and dynamically displayed) that meet the criteria below.

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image009 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;padding-right:0px, "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image009 "src=" Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M00/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7LKiBiOVAAG8tXFmjSY521.png "height=" 266 "/>

After the column of the related object, if there is a flag as shown, it means that there are related column information that is not listed

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image010 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-right:0px; "border=" 0 "alt = "clip_image010" src= "Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M01/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7LLSKGEMAAAlXmO14jU943.png" height= "306"/>

After clicking, you can select the relevant parameters in the popup dialog box.

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image011 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-right:0px; "border=" 0 "alt = "clip_image011" src= "Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M02/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7LOx7jTFAABUP3HR68o114.png" height= "385"/>

This function is equivalent to entering F in the command line of Esxtop to select the information displayed

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image012 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-right:0px; "border=" 0 "alt = "clip_image012" src= "http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M00/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7LPAGR9MAAA4KCzoIsA635.png" height= "/>"

When you view the relevant parameter options, if there are related sub-options under this parameter, its display is displayed as a folder icon, and the left side has "+" click on the symbol to see the esxtop related parameters of its related sub-options and their sub-options

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image013 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-right:0px; "border=" 0 "alt = "clip_image013" src= "Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M01/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7LSzgb1PAAB878VHHIU402.png" height= "554"/>

Double-clicking on the object Types in the Chart tab will show the relevant performance options and parameters;

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image014 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;margin:0px;padding-right:0px; "border=" 0 "alt = "clip_image014" src= "Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M01/7D/1A/wKioL1bf7TjQ9sfYAACenSbCZEs073.png" height= "606"/>

We can click on the features of the project to monitor, such as showing the specific vmhba of the CMDS/S information, that is, the array card IOPS changes in the last 10 minutes.

Of course, if you want to display multiple related performance charts in a box, find the options you want to show, double-click to add to the right of the box, and different items will have different color representations, which is very useful for horizontal comparison;

For example, I think in the future through the login VSI in the process of stress testing through the tool to focus on the performance of the parameters of the table diagram to display graphically, which is undoubtedly more conducive to the final results of the description.

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image015 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;padding-right:0px, "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image015 "src=" Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M02/7D/1B/wKiom1bf7Lii1vjRAAOQv0F0CHQ243.png "height=" 553 "/>

Of course, if the time interval is too short, you can choose to zoom in on the chart by right-clicking on the horizontal axis.

650) this.width=650; "title=" clip_image017 "style=" border-top:0px;border-right:0px;background-image:none; border-bottom:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-left:0px;border-left:0px;padding-right:0px, "border=" 0 "alt=" clip_ image017 "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M02/7D/1A/wKioL1bf7TyhYkFLAACxDu2qg1A230.jpg "height=" 448 "/>
