High quality (DPI) images drawn by common software

Source: Internet
Author: User

Abstract:

This document describes how to obtain high-quality images using common drawing tools (MATLAB, Visio, PowerPoint, MSWord, and MSExcel. At the same time, I will briefly describe the effects of different image formats based on my previous experience.

Range:

The high-quality image referred to in this Article refers300-600 dpi. Picture with higher resolution is not considered.

DPI:

Dot per inch indicates the number of outlets that can be printed on each inch. However, with the rapid development of digital input and output devices, most people use DPI to describe the resolution of digital images, but more rigorous people may note that the dot calculated during printing) pixel is not the same as that of a computer monitor. Therefore, more professional people use pixel per inch to indicate the resolution of digital images to distinguish them.

In general, the higher the DPI, the more detailed the image. However, when the display board (Common A4 and A2 paper) has a limited time, the printing effects of images higher than DPI are hard to be distinguished by the naked eye.

However, to reduce the computing workload, the default DPI index is 72 or 96. in the absence of special settings, the DPI of the saved image cannot exceed the default value, and the written printing requirements are not met. This article will introduce the above several plotting tools one by one below.

Graph in Word and Excel

If you want to copy a text box or graph created in word or a graph automatically generated in Excel, click the image's external frame and copy it directly. If you cannot, open Photoshop, create an A4 image with DPI 1000 and background white or transparent. paste the copied image to the image and press Ctrl and the plus sign to enlarge the image to around 100%, select a proper cut size, create a new default image, paste it, and save it as a TIFF format. PS1: the A4 size (21 cm * 28 cm) is used to ensure that the drawing board is large enough to accommodate the shape. PS2: If you need a smaller image, remove the check hooks before the layer to be saved and use LZW for compression.
The saved image is about 200 kb.

Figure in MATLAB

For images generated by MATLAB, do not save them as tiff or other formats. Instead, set the appropriate color format (RGB, grayscale, Black & white, etc.), set the DPI value to 1000 (do not use the default auto, do not select 300,600, this may be small, enter 1000 directly ), click Export on the right and save it as tiff.

Line chart of origin

If the source image is a graph made of "Origin,

According to the requirements of "1200 dpi (dots per inch) for black and white line art (simple bar graphs, charts, etc.)", the modification process is as follows:

(1) Use the program "Origin" (for example, originpro 7.5) to open the graph;

(2) Click "file" and "Export page" in the menu .. select "tag image file (*. TIF) ". Check" show image options "and confirm" save ";

(3) In the tiff options window, set "dip" to 1200; "color depth" to monochrome; "compression" to LZW, and click "OK.

(4) use Photoshop to open the Tif format image. In the menu "image" and "image size", confirm that the "resolution" is 1200 pixels/inch, set "width" to around 6000 pixels. Click "OK ".

(5) Select "file", "storage as", "format" as "tiff", "save", select "LZW" in "Image Compression", and click "OK". you can get pictures that meet the magazine's requirements!

If the image is a jpg image, such as an electronic microscope image,

300 dpi for halftones (black and white photographs)

600 dpi for combination halftones (photographs that also contain line art such as labeling or thin lines)

According to any of the above requirements, the processing is as follows:

(1) use Photoshop to open an image. In "image", select "grayscale" (for black and white images) or "CMYK" (for color images)

(2) In "image", set "image size" to "resolution" to 600 (or 300) pixels/inch, and set "width" to about 3000 pixels; click "OK ".

(3) Select "file", "storage as" format ", select" tiff ", and save"; select "LZW" in "Image Compression", and click "OK". you can get pictures that meet the magazine's requirements!

Flowchart in Visio

After drawing is completed in Visio, select the image format (TIFF, JPG, EMF) or other formats in the 'Save As 'option. In the displayed dialog box, set as follows:

1. "color format": You can select "24-bit color" for a color image. You can select "16-bit grayscale" for a normal black/white image ".

2. "resolution": Select "Custom", 800x800. The default unit is "pixel/Inch ".

3. "size". You can also customize or select "Source ".

Click OK.

Part 2: Briefly describe the effect of different image formats.

Common image formats, Tiff, JPEG, EMF, GIF, EPS, BMP,

Based on my previous experience, the quality of EMF and EPS for Matlab images is very good.

MS: tiff/JPEG are both good.
