Home LAN Set up classic example sharing

I have been playing computer for some years, home already has 3 units, of which 2 desktops (their own assembly), 1 notebook computers. Because of the nature of the job, I often have to deal with things at home. However, there is no printer attached to the computer that needs to print the document, so it is hard to copy back and forth with the flash disk ... Carefree matter, I finally tired, thinking: or to use the home of these computers to form a network?

Do what you say!

Cabling Planning

Now that you want to build a local area network, the first problem is wiring. When planning to use the shortest line to connect the computer, it is not only to save a few money problems, but to effectively reduce signal attenuation, improve network speed. In addition, because it is used in the family, and the use of unshielded twisted pair (the choice of network cable will be said below), so we should try to keep away from electromagnetic interference, the general family more common sources of interference including microwave ovens, starter, induction cooker and some high-power motor.

The current network connection mainly has the following kinds: hub/switch connection, wireless LAN, multiple network card connection and USB cable connection.

hub/switch Connection (see Figure 1)

The biggest advantage of this way is the low price, and stable and reliable, not only for the general family, for small and medium-sized Enterprises is also a good choice.

Wireless local Area Network

For many families, because the decoration is finished, it is inconvenient to make a hole around the wiring. The feature of wireless connection is convenient, some brand-name products can even be done within 30m through 2 thick walls, while a few low-end products may not be able to afford a small indoor "turn", even with the door open, wireless access point (AP) can not communicate with the wireless client in another room.

Multi-NIC connection and USB cable Connection because of various problems, such as economic, inconvenient, and so on, this is not considered. After weighing the trade-offs, I chose the traditional hub/switch connection.

Equipment purchase

After you have identified the wiring, the first thing to note is the network cable. In my opinion, the choice of five types of lines can be, this kind of material performance defined to 100MHz, applied in 100base-t, TP-PMD, fully able to meet our "hundred megabytes to the desktop" requirements. The super five line is unnecessary, not because it is expensive, but because it is not necessary for such a small network. At present in the market can buy from the 1~5m of the finished cable, this network cable using a specialized machine production, quality is very good, the price is slightly more expensive, recommended use. However, if the 5m long network cable can not meet your requirements, you can ask the merchant to help you in accordance with your request to make, pay attention to the crystal head do not choose those bargains, these bargains can not save a few money, but may not pull a few times on the problem. The above is not shielded twisted pair, shielded twisted pair and unshielded twisted pair The main difference is to add a layer of metal shielding sheath. Because the price than unshielded twisted-pair line expensive, installation is also more difficult, coupled with the home LAN structure simple, less equipment, so there is no need to use shielded twisted pair.

The choice of network cards is relatively simple, the current network card is basically 10/100mbps adaptive, if your machine does not integrate the network card, the choice of digital Shenzhou, Tatsu and other well-known manufacturers of products can be, D-link is also good. 3Com and other foreign manufacturers of the product is very good, but a little expensive. Laptop network card selection is not within the scope of this article, not to repeat.

About the hub/switch, I personally recommend the choice of switches, after all, the switch is the "hub of the upgrading of products," from the point of view of household products, switch and hub price difference is very small. I'm buying a 5-port switch called "Withub", which is ideal for home use and very fit, Figure 2 for "intimate contact" with the switch and my Motorola T720 phone.

Network settings

Connect the computer network card with the switch, this should not have any trouble, the next is the network settings. I suggest that unless you use a computer that is too slow, it is generally best to choose Windows XP. The reason is that Windows XP does not need to be restarted when it is set up on the network, and Windows XP also has a large number of hardware drivers, which, in general, do not need to be installed for each hardware driver. My home's Sony digital cameras and HP scanners are typically "plug and Play" under Windows XP (for example, if not specifically, here are Windows XP).

Open the "Control Panel" * "Network Connection" * "Local Area Connection" * "Properties", select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), select its properties, and then select "Use the following IP address" to fill in the IP address with 192.168.0.1 (see Figure 3, the rest of the machines, and so on). Windows XP automatically fills in the subnet mask with 255.255.255.0.

When you're done, double-click Network Places to see all the machines and workgroups. For the sake of convenience, I suggest that you still summarize all the machines under a workgroup. The method is as follows: Open the Control Panel * "System", select "Computer name", click "Network ID", and select "Next" in the Out screen. "*" This machine is part of a commercial network ... "*" the company uses a network with no domain ", then fill in the workgroup name with the name of the workgroup you defined ( The default workgroup name is workgroup), such as Matrix, is it cool?

Setting up shared directories and printer sharing is easy, as long as you have installed "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" in Control Panel * Network connection * Local Area Connection * properties. Next, just right-click the folder, drive, or printer that you want to share, and click "Share." Other machines if you want to use a printer, you can use a shared printer if you choose to install network printers when you add a printer.

Broadband sharing

Now many homes are installed ADSL broadband, how to make the home LAN all machines can access the Internet through an account? The easiest thing to do is to use the network sharing feature built into Windows XP to select the Control Panel * Network connection for the machine that connects to the Internet. Right-click the network connection to the Internet (my connection name is ADSL), select "Properties" * "Advanced", check "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection", click "OK" button. The IP address of this machine is automatically defined as 192.168.0.1, which becomes the DNS of the entire home LAN, and the gateway and DNS of other machines are set to 192.168.0.1 to the Internet.

can also adopt proxy server method, use Sygate or ccproxy one computer as proxy server, other machine with Proxy server IP address as gateway and DNS is OK. If you are using Ccproxy, also note that the proxy server for IE is set to the IP address of the proxy server, and the port defaults to 808.

The disadvantage of the above 2 methods is to use other machines when surfing the Internet, must open the machine directly connected to the network, now the electricity is so high, I do not want to drive a few computers all day. Is there any other way? Someone will tell you to open ADSL Modem routing function (for this aspect, please refer to your ADSL modem instructions and consult relevant manufacturers and Telecommunications Bureau), the ADSL modem and switch the upper port connection, so ADSL modem A boot will automatically connect to the local side, for each LAN machine to provide Internet services. This approach is really good, but the premise is that your ADSL with the routing function. What if ADSL does not have a routing function? In fact, we can also connect ADSL with the upper port of the switch, so that no matter which machine you open, you can dial the Internet through ADSL. If you're happy, you can even set up separate ADSL connections for each computer at the same time, okay? But this is afraid to receive the letter from the agency at the end of the month (n= LAN number of machines) ...

This is my first time to build the network alone, after the success of the joy is really difficult to say. In order to celebrate, I would like to find old brother at home on the local area network to learn a warcraft, the result was flatly rejected. Finally, the father looked at me poor, agree with me in the local area network up a Chinese chess, as for the victory and defeat, here also need not elaborate ...

There is a joy called sharing.
