On Wednesday, IBM announced that it had acquired WebDialogs, a Web conference Company, and launched a new version of the Unified Communication client Sametime. In addition, IBM said it would start testing middleware integration into multiple PBX phone systems early next year.
These messages were announced at the VoiceCon conference in San Francisco by Mike Rhodin, IBM's General Manager of Lotus.
After acquiring WebDialogs in Billerica, Massachusetts, IBM plans to provide Web conferencing functionality in its Lotus Sametime UC client as a software service. The new service that integrates the Web conferencing function is called Lotus Sametime Unyte. Unyte is the original name of the WebDialogs service. "We found that they have the most easy-to-use systems in the market," says Rhodin ." The financial terms of the transaction are not disclosed.
In terms of Sametime, Rhodin introduced Sametime 8 and told everyone that this product has three versions: Entry edition, Standard Edition, and advanced edition. Lotus Notes can be upgraded for free.
