Gradient grid
This is the quickest technique I've found to achieve results, and it has the potential to be explored to a large extent.
First, use the Rectangle tool (M) to draw a rectangle. I'm on a deep violet, of course you can use the other colors you like. Executes the Object menu > Creates a gradient grid, which pops up the gradient grid dialog box. In the dialog box, the number of rows: 10, Columns: 1, OK. The rectangle now has 10 rows, separated by 11 grid points to the left and right of the rectangle.

Select the 2nd grid point to the left of the top, hold down the SHIFT key, and drag the grid point up below the first grid point. When you move the grid point on the left, the grid point to the right that is connected to it doesn't move with it, creating a curve. Then, the other grid point on the left is the same operation except for the one at the bottom that does not move. Now you should have an image similar to the one shown below.

Now we're going to add some different colors to these created mesh points, using the Direct selection tool (A) to select the third grid point from the bottom to the right of the rectangle. With the grid point selected, open the color panel to change the color. I like to use a lighter color than the background color, of course, you can also use your favorite color. Then, skip the immediately preceding grid point and select the next grid point: The 3rd, 5, 7, respectively, are selected ... Mesh point, change color), change color, repeat until all grid points have changed color.

This is the most basic instance of using a gradient grid. If you want to add more mesh points, use the Gradient grid tool (U). With this tool, you can add mesh points to any design work or to any of the non-composite objects. In the following example, I used the gradient grid tool (U), added a mesh point to the left of the rectangle, changed the color, added a grid point to the midpoint of one of the lines, and changed the color.

Step Number Mix
Step-Number blending is another quick way to create an abstract pie background. You may use the previous gradient mix, but that is not a mixed number of steps.
Draw a rectangle, this time applying a linear gradient (>). In the gradient panel, I use dark green and light green, and then use the Gradient tool (G) to adjust the gradient, so the darker part of the gradient is at the bottom of the rectangle.

Then, use the Pen tool (P) to draw a set of lines. Draw the first Bezier curve. Use the Pen tool (P) to draw the second line, this time, different from the first curve.

Select the two lines, perform the "Object" menu > Mix > Build (ctrl+alt+b), and create a blend. Then execute the Object menu > Blending > Blending options to open the Blending Options dialog box. Select the "specified number of steps" in the Spacing drop-down menu. Choose the most appropriate number according to the distance between your lines. Before you click the OK button you can click the preview to see the effect. If you are not satisfied with the effect, you may need to return the operation frequently and reset the number of steps. Just run the Mix Options dialog box with the Object menu > Blending > Blending options.

Combine more step numbers to create different, more abstract effects. It's very interesting to try different colors with different transparency.

Opaque masks

First, draw a shape using the tool you're good at, and I use the Pen tool (P). Then execute the Effects menu > Distort and Transform > Transform to open the Transform Effect dialog box. Here are the parameters that I set up, set the parameters as you wish, mainly according to the shape you draw.

The other options that you set are not changed, OK. You may need to return to the operation frequently to edit the modification effect. When you open the Appearance panel and you select transform shapes, you can see transformations in the list. Double-click it to open the Transform Effect dialog box, and you can reset the parameters. When you are satisfied with your results, perform the "Object" menu > expand the Appearance. If you don't expand, the next time you want to change the shape, you might have an unexpected effect.

At this point, the shape is still selected and the radial gradient is created from the gradient panel. Use the default black and white gradient swatch to remove strokes. Then use the Rectangle tool (M) to draw a rectangle, surround the transform shape, remove the stroke, fill in the color, and place the rectangle at the bottom (ctrl+shift+[).

Then select the rectangle and transform the shape, and select the cascading menu of the transparency panel to create an opaque mask. Now you have the abstract art!

You can stop or go further if you like. Copy (Ctrl + C), paste in front (ctrl+f), zoom in and rotate the work to get a different effect.
