It's finally done today. Install VMware 3.2.1 on freebsd5.2.1
The installation steps are as follows:
1, the use of packages installation linuxbase.
Sysinstall-->configure-->packages-->linux-->linuxbase 7.1_5
2, the use of ports installation Vmware3
cd/usr/ports/emulators/vmware3/
Make install clean
Note: A menu will appear in the installation asking you what mode to choose: Bridged and router mode. If you have the IP resources of your local network (you can set IP for your machine at will), then I suggest you use the bridged mode instead of the route mode. Then come out a dialog box, ask you to fill in the name of the card, such as: Rl0,fxp0 and so on ... Can be viewed through ifconfig.
Select the Network Bridge (bridged) mode will not have any options you choose; If you choose the routing mode will ask your IP, I recommend choosing the default IP, if the subnet and your current subnet, just change a subnet.
X Note: I set my ADSL MODEM into a routing format, so as long as the gateway in the guest OS can be set up on the Internet, if you think of FB online, but also set up FB as a gateway. Refer to the English article that I included with the specific operation method.
3. Environment configuration
(1) Start the network card
The/USR/LOCAL/ETC/RC.D directory will have a script called vmware.sh. After the first installation, you did not reboot the system (the script in RC.D will run automatically each time the OS is started). , you need to manually start VMware's vmnet network card, you have to play vm*.sh-start to start, if ifconfig, see a vmnet network card, to prove the success of the boot.
(2) Load Linuxproc partition
Add a line of code to the/etc/fstab file:
Code:
Linproc/compat/linux/proc linprocfs RW 0 0
After reboot, use the DF command to confirm that it has been loaded.
(3) Add the following line of code to the etc/sysctl.conf configuration file.
Kern.ipc.shm_allow_removed=1
If this line on my machine is not added, there will be a prompt to load SVGA error when power is on.
4, configure VMware and install the guest OS.
After rebooting, enter VMware on the console to start the VMware program.
(1) Enter the registration code, I use Google to find two registration code.
60n88-8dw44-16h77-32kt4
6818x-84wd1-01kdk-3jn9x
(2) Install the guest OS, the operation method and win the similar, according to the wizard to set up.
Just some device files VMware may not be automatically found and need to be set manually.
Such as
Mouse-->/dev/sysmouse
CD-->/dev/dev0
Network card-->/dev/vmnet1 (if you go through the gateway like me, use this)
Set under Setting-->configure Editor.
These all have the error prompt, may follow the prompt to do.
(3) After setting, put the OS CD, load the optical drive, Mount/cdrom. Then press the power on key to start. The guest OS is ready to be installed.
5. Installation Vmtools
After the guest OS is installed, start the OS and select the Setting-->vmware tools Install on the VMware menu for vmtools installation.
PostScript
Machine configuration: AMD Duron 600,512 sdram,15g hard drive.
System environment: Freebsd 5.2.1,xfce4,nivdia Geforce 4 MX video driver,
Use sense: Install WinXP English version, installation time about 1.5 hours. Running speed feels a little slower than real. But it's a lot quicker than win.
