Error 1402 is reported when VMware7.1 is installed on 64-bit win7 today. cocould not open key: UNKNOWN \ Components \ 7ABFE44842C12B390AF18C3B9B1A1EE8 \ 4A94D9E94FD183147BBDD5788A3980E8. verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact you support personnel.
The error indicates that you do not have the permission to access the corresponding registry entry.

1. You need to modify the Registry. You must have the administrator privilege to modify the registry, or you can escalate the privilege to the Administrator for operation. To ensure security, first back up the registry:
It takes several minutes to back up all data based on the machine speed.
2. locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Installer \ UserData \ S-1-5-18 \ Components \ 7ABFE44842C12B390AF18C3B9B1A1EE8 in the registry. (The simhei part depends on the error reported by your installation program)
Right-click --> permission:
Add the "Administrator", "Administrators" and "SYSTEM" accounts, and grant full control and read permissions, as shown in the following figure:
3. In the window in the previous figure, click Advanced to enter the following window:
Select this option to replace all sub-object permissions with the permissions inherited from this object.
Click the owner tab to ensure that the current user has ownership:
Click OK. Try again to install VMware. No error is reported.
