Intersil launches ultra-low distortion stereo switch
California, MILPITAS-2009, February 02-intersil Company today announced the introduction of a highly integrated, ultra-low distortion stereo audio switch ISL54406 to eliminate the noise normally caused by power on and off, mute on and off, and switching between audio sources. The ISL54406 has excellent audio performance and reduces the number of external components, making it ideal for thin MP3 players, speaker docking systems, mobile phones, portable DVD players and sound cards.
ISL54406 's high audio performance is reflected in several ways. First, the total harmonic distortion (THD) is only 0.015% when the ISL54406 provides 1mW power to the 32ω load. Low THD switching paths can be interrupted to provide power-off isolation greater than 100dB, which is used to mute signals on 32ω or higher loads common in consumer electronics and automotive entertainment systems. Even in the case of a large DC-level coupling capacitor, the ISL54406 can be restored immediately from the mute state. This power-on-demand function does not require a timing capacitor and consumes only 7mA of current. The ISL54406 has both active and standby operating modes, and the maximum current consumed by Standby mode is only 5nA. When not in use, the user can put portable devices such as the MP3 player into sleep mode, when the ISL54406 low power characteristics can reduce the current consumption to a minimum. The ISL54406 architecture is designed to eliminate noise, effectively isolating low-impedance and high-impedance loads from audio glitches and surges, eliminating the need for peripheral timing devices dealing with DC-level coupling capacitors between single-supply codec and loads. |
