A few days ago, Apple released iphone 6 Plus. The new iphone dramatically changes the way images are rendered on the screen. We made a chart for a detailed analysis.
The screen pixel resolution of the 320x480375x667414x736320x480750x13341242x22081080x19203.5″4.7″5.5″iphone 6 Plus is lower than the image resolution rendered in previous steps. Before the image is displayed on the screen, the image must be resized to a lower pixel resolution. Physical pixels Initially, the coordinates of all images are determined by point. Points are absolute units, they are only meaningful in the mathematical coordinate space. On the original iphone, the dots and the actual screen pixels are exactly the same, but now it's no longer the case. Point-based image rendering becomes pixel, and this process is rasterization (rasterization). The point coordinates are multiplied by a certain scale factor to get the corresponding pixel coordinates. A higher coefficient of proportionality can be presented in better detail. The typical scale coefficients are 1x, 2x and 3x. Render pixels The last step is to display the calculated pixels on the physical screen. Each screen has a per-inch pixel (PPI) feature. This number tells you how many pixels are displayed in an inch, which is the size of a pixel in the real world. Aiphone 6 Plus shrinks the rendered image before it is displayed on the screen. The physical pixel content is defined in terms of mathematical point coordinates. Point content renders the imager with a scale factor called rasterization (rasterization). The image that renders the pixel after rasterization is displayed on the physical device. Rendering of a line
To illustrate the different pixel rendering of multiple devices, we compare how a one-pixel-wide line is rendered:
- The original iphone-no HD screen, the scale factor is 1.
- IPhone 5-with HD screen, Scale factor is 2.
- IPhone 6 Plus-Super Gaoqing (Retina display HD). The scale factor is 3, and the image is first rendered as 2208x1242 pixels and then reduced to 1920x1080 pixels.
The scaled-down ratio is 1920/2208 = 1080/1242 = 20/23. This means that every 23 pixels originally rendered will be distributed to 20 physical pixels. In other words, the image shrinks to about 87% of the original size.
