The Firewall Client for ISA Server can optionally be installed on a client computer that is protected by Microsoft ISA Server. The firewall clients of ISA Server provide enhanced security, application support, and access control to client computers. The firewall client of ISA Server provides authentication for Winsock applications that use TCP and UDP, supports complex secondary protocols, and provides user and application information for ISA Server logs.
When a client computer on a firewall client running ISA Server makes a request, the Firewall Client software evaluates the target and then directs the external request to the ISA Server computer for processing. No specific routing infrastructure is required. The firewall client transparently sends the user information for each request, so that a firewall policy with the authentication credential rules provided by the client can be created on the ISA Server computer. ISA Server allows you to configure automatic discovery for Firewall client computers, using the WPAD entry in DNS or DHCP to get the correct client Web proxy settings (this setting depends on the location of the client).
