We may have all experienced fraudulent calls disguised as "Windows Technical Service Support," and I believe many people know that such calls are fraudulent.

Scammers impersonate Dell customer service scam

And now, Dell users are less fortunate. This week, it was reported that crooks mastered the database of Dell users. Many Dell users now reflect the problem of receiving a "technical support service" call, and the person on the phone seems to know all about the user's personal information, including the customer's name, e-mail, personal account information of the Dell website, and the device serial number and authorization tag. And those calls proved to be fraudulent, but it is even more frightening that the phones continue to harass users, probably starting in 2015, but Dell seems not to have stopped it.

Zen Monkeys reported on this matter

"In November, scammers pretended to be Dell's after-sales service staff to call me, but the crooks knew a lot about me and were clear about the specific model of my Dell computer. Also know every question I've consulted with Dell customer personnel before. This information is not published on the internet, so only Dell is aware of these, the other places are not found. (Even if I need two-step verification to login to my own email address), I had previously consulted the real Dell customer service, a Dell customer service who claimed to be a mark, who tried to explain why scammers knew the history of the account. He says Dell has detected a hacker attack and they are attacking our site. ”

The matter has been reported in tech blogosphere, and the earliest reported was that more than 10 similar reports were reported in June, July, September, October and November before August. The reports are strikingly similar, and the description is roughly the same: "My phone is on the phone, the person on the phone claims to be a Dell customer service, the accent is a foreigner, and I know my name." In the past few weeks, they have received a report from my Dell computer about a problem. Was the user data stolen after Dell was hacked? Except for Dell, there is no such thing as me, my name, my phone, and I have a Dell computer. ”

It is unclear whether Dell's database is under attack or that some fake technician cheats the user's money, but from the current report it is common to know that this is a problem.

Worst of all, scammers have begun to take advantage of Dell's software vulnerabilities to start controlling the victim's computer. Some people describe the word:

"They called my parents and the phone number was 800-425-0090," he says. They say they are from Dell and know their computer status and name. They lied to my parents about the virus in the computer and they used the Dell Helper program to control the computer. They knew how to do it, and when my father realized they were cheating on him, he asked them, and they left a notepad on the computer that showed the computer had a virus and an error message, which was absolutely a scam and could only be accessed by a Dell program to leave such information. ”

How to deal with problems

Dell is constantly telling users that they are working on the problem and that the user's report has not stopped. It is clear that Dell users must protect themselves, there are five scenarios to deal with such scams:

1 Get the caller's name and phone number, then compare it with the phone listed on the Dell official website to confirm the relationship between the caller and Dell, without confirming that the reply is not clear.

2 If you can get the full name of the other person, you can go to LinkedIn (LinkedIn) to find the other person's information, see if the other person is working at Dell, of course, not suitable for all situations, if you find information about each other, then you can trust each other.

3 Take a pen to write down the other person's phone number in the book, and then on Google to check whether there is information about the number, or the fraud report appears. (You can make it worthwhile to look at each other while waiting for them, and a real customer service will understand your cautious approach.) )

4 treat every phone with caution, and if it is a scam, then you can take the method of asking questions to see if there is any problem with the answer. You can also ask some wrong questions to differentiate whether you are a liar or not.

50 million do not hesitate, follow the intuition, if you feel there is a problem can hang up the phone directly, and on the Dell official website to inquire information.
