JET Database Engine
The engine determines the program or program segment for program management and data operations. The database engine is a program or program segment that operates the database.

Microsoft Jet is a database engine used by Microsoft Access and Visual Basic. Before DAO3.1, the data access object DAO (data access object) was defined as a "programming interface of Microsoft Jet Engine". That is to say, DAO and Jet were almost synonymous in history. DAO accesses to the database through the Microsoft Jet Database Engine. Of course, these two concepts have different meanings. Jet cannot be used directly. Only DAO or Access can be used directly.

However, after DAO3.1, an important feature is added, which is ODBCDirect access. ODBCDirect allows DAO to skip the Jet engine and directly access the ODBC data source. With this function, DAO is no longer bound to Jet, and DAO and Jet are still inextricably linked. Generally, if the application uses a local database, DAO generally accesses the database through Jet. Otherwise, DAO accesses the database through ODBCDirect.

Jet is driven by SQL, but such SQL may be different from the general implementation. In this case, it may bring benefits or disadvantages.
