Strongly recommended Coursera course "Learning how to learn". One of the main points of this course is

To improve the thinking and learning ability is a great help. I practiced for a month or two and felt good. Problems encountered at work are easier to sort out. We have only one goal: to understand how the brain works so that we can learn better.

1. Focused thinking vs. Divergent thinking

    • There are two modes of learning and thinking (mode), focus mode (focus) and diffuse mode (divergence).
    • Focus Mode learning is our usual sense of "learning", such as class, reading, doing exercises and so on.
    • Diffuse mode leanring refers to the arbitrary divergence of thought on a certain content.
    • Learning knowledge or skills is the process by which the body makes a specific neural connection and constructs a neural network. This process requires us to constantly switch between focus mode and diffuse mode.

How to apply to our own learning?

1. Focused thinking vs. Divergent thinking

    • The study time should not be too long. For example, with pomodoro timing: Tomato potato working method. Take 10 minutes off every half-hour. Let the new knowledge have time to switch from Focus mode to diffuse mode consolidation.
    • Decentralized learning. A knowledge or skill can divide it into multiple days and spend a small amount of time studying every day. This long-term effect is better than concentrating one day.
    • The most important points of knowledge or problems are more random association. Diffuse mode thinking may offer unexpected good answers.

2. Multi-sense learning and spatial recognition

    • Use different sensory learning as much as possible.

3. Memory system
