Sina Technology news in the early morning of March 3, Alibaba founder Jack Ma said in a speech at Stanford University last weekend that the main task of its online transaction platform Taobao this year is not a business model, claiming that it is still restricting revenue, he also promised that Taobao and Alipay will develop in the U.S. market in the future.
In his speech, Jack Ma said that Taobao's revenue is currently being restricted. "no more than a cent of money is acceptable ." He said that Taobao's main task this year is not a business model, but a good commercial impact, so that more people can solve their jobs through Taobao. In last October, Alibaba announced that it would invest 5 billion yuan in Taobao in the next five years.
However, Jack Ma did not explain the reason for limiting Taobao's revenue. Taobao CFO disclosed in last October that it is trying to make a profit in the online advertising model, and is expected to make a full-year profit in 2009.
In his speech, Jack Ma also promised that Taobao and Alipay will develop in the U.S. market and want to make it easier for Americans to shop on Taobao. However, he also said that the way Taobao enters the United States will be different from the way American companies develop in the Chinese market.
According to Jack Ma's itinerary, he will join 10 other senior executives in the US to visit eight companies including eBay, Amazon, and Microsoft in the next two weeks to seek broad partnerships.
