Microsoft says only thousands of companies are now involved in limited testing and will then expand to more users. Also, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online will also be included in Office 365.
It is not clear whether Office 365 replaces the Microsoft Business productivity Online Standard Suite (BPOS), which includes managed version Exchange and SharePoint, But does not include Office Web Apps.
Microsoft officials stressed at a news conference that Office 365 was Microsoft's most powerful product and that the company believed that future products would be released in the form of cloud-based software.
Kurt DelBene, president of Microsoft Office, said Microsoft customers would no longer have to ask them if they should migrate their local software to the cloud, and now they are concerned about when to migrate and how to migrate.
