Microsoft fixed known issues with the security patch MS14-045

On August 27, 2014, Microsoft modified the Security Bulletin MS14-045-vulnerabilities in kernel-mode drivers Could Allow Elevation of Privilege to fix some known issues with installing security update 2982791.

Overview

To address some of the known issues with Security Update 2982791, Microsoft re-released the Security Bulletin MS14-045 for all supported Windows systems, replacing the problematic update 2993651 with update 2982791. Microsoft removed update August 15, 2014 in 2982791.

All customers need to install update 2993651 to replace the expired update 2982791.

Question: I have installed update 2982791 successfully, but I have not encountered any problems. So do I still need to install the update August 27, 2014 released on September 2993651?

Answer:: Yes. All users should install update 2993651 to replace expired update 2982791.

Question: Do I Need To uninstall expired update 2993651 before installing the 2982791 update?

Answer:: Technically speaking, there is no need to do so. However, Microsoft strongly recommends that you uninstall update 2993651 of the old version before installing security update 2982791. If you do not delete the expired update 2982791, it will still be displayed in the list of installed updates on the control panel.

Question: I have uninstalled the original security update 2982791. Do I need to install the update August 27, 2014 released on April 9, 2993651?

Answer:: Yes, all users should install update 2993651 to replace expired version 2982791 in order to avoid being attacked by exploiting the vulnerability CVE-2014-0318 and CVE-2014-1819.
