Migrating virtual machines across clusters using SCVMM failed (2904)

A test Hyper-V cluster was recently deployed for customers who wanted to migrate some of the tested virtual machines from the original Hyper-V cluster to the newly deployed test cluster, with the Hyper-V version of two clusters being Windows Server 2012. Two clusters are managed using the same SCVMM.

Problem phenomenon

When migrating some virtual machines, SCVMM prompts for an error with ID 2904. Error details for "VMM cannot find the path specified on the XXX server C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ virtual machine name \virtual hard disks\. The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003) "

Problem Analysis

The VHD that discovers its original virtual machine on its original virtual machine is not placed in Virtualharddisks, but is placed in the root directory of the virtual machine, but SCVMM considers it necessary to have the virtual hard disks directory in the target when migrating. , if not detected will be an error. This issue is also a bug in SCVMM, it has not yet been searched for an SCVMM update that resolves this issue

Workaround

After the migration is performed, the directory of the virtual machine is automatically created in the target CSV during the migration process, and we can manually create a virtual hard disks directory in the VM directory to avoid this problem.
