Multimedia Short Message Service (MMS) is a service that stores and forwards text messages. It enables mobile users to exchange multimedia short messages. It can be seen as the further development of SMS, and MMS can transmit more media forms:
- Text
- Image
- Audio
- Images
- Combination of the above items
Multimedia Short Message Service (MMS) is a very important emerging service. It can contain a variety of different media in a message and send one text message to multiple recipients. The sender can easily create a multimedia text message. They can send photos taken with built-in or external cameras, or create their multimedia messages using pictures and sounds that were previously stored on a phone or may be downloaded from a website.
Even if the recipient's phone is shut down, multimedia messages will still be stored. When the recipient is on the machine, the text message will be sent to him immediately. In non-roaming situations, a user can allow a multimedia text message to be automatically downloaded to his mobile phone. Then, the user will receive a notification and can see the text message immediately. Several multimedia text messages can be stored on users' mobile phones for later viewing or forwarding.
Each multimedia text message contains several pages (you can make an analogy with a PowerPoint slide ). Each page contains an image, a paragraph, and an audio file as an attachment. You can set the display time for each page. Therefore, for users, the number of multimedia text messages is somewhat like a slide.
How does MMS work?
The working status of MMS depends on different carriers. For details about how MMS messages are sent and received between two compatible MMS phones, refer to the following typical example:
- Step 1: use an MMS-compatible mobile phone to take a photo
- Step 2: Use your mobile phone to personalize text messages. You can add text content, music, or your own voice.
- Step 3: Send MMS messages
On a compatible mobile phone, a new text message is prompted when an MMS text message appears. The text message is displayed on the screen, and the text appears under the image. The sound starts to play automatically.
If the text message is sent to an incompatible MMS phone, the user will receive an SMS containing the following text: "An image text message is sent to you !" Then, the user may receive a website address, a user name, and a password. On this website, the user can see the image text message.
This is just a simple example. For different carriers, this process may be different.
