By default, Access 2000/2002 databases are opened in a "shared" manner, which ensures that more than one person can use the same database at the same time. However, some features, such as compressing and repairing a database, are not available when you open the database in a shared way. In addition, when a system administrator wants to maintain a database, it does not want others to open the database. The following methods allow you to open an Access database in an exclusive way.
First, open the button method
1. On the File menu, click Open.
2. Click the Access database file you want.
3. Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open Exclusive.
Second, the option to set the method
This applies to occasionally opening the database exclusively, and if you frequently want to open the database exclusively, make the following settings:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. Click the Advanced option, and under Default open mode, click Exclusive.
3. Click "OK" button.
After that, when you open the database file as you normally do, you open it in an exclusive way. In fact, even if you set the default open mode to shared, you can still open an Access database exclusively by using the Open button method above.
