What is OpenStack?

OpenStack provides open source software to build public and private clouds. OpenStack is a community, project, and open source software that helps enterprises run virtual computing or storage cloud. The OpenStackd open-source project is maintained by the community, including OpenStack computing (codenamed Nova), OpenStack Object Storage (codenamed SWIFT), and OpenStack Image Service (codenamed Glance. OpenStack provides an operating platform or toolkit for cloud orchestration.

Components of OpenStack

OpenStack currently has three main components: computing, storage, and image.

OpenStack computing is a cloud controller used to start a user or a virtual instance in a group. It is also used to configure multiple instances in each instance or project to connect to a specific project.

OpenStack object storage is a system that stores objects in large-capacity systems with built-in redundancy and fault tolerance. Object Storage has various applications, such as backing up or archiving data, storing graphics or videos (streaming media data is transmitted to your browser), and storing Level 2 or level 3 static data, develop new applications for integration with data storage, store data when the predicted storage capacity is difficult, and create elastic and flexible cloud storage Web applications.

OpenStack image service is a search and virtual machine image retrieval system. It can be configured in three ways: Using OpenStack object storage to store images; using Amazon S3 for direct storage, or using S3 object storage as S3 for access to intermediate storage.

OpenStack Project Architecture

OpenStack currently includes three sub-projects, which are independent of each other and can be installed separately.

• Swift provides object storage. This is roughly like a Rackspace cloud file (derived from it) or Amazon S3.

• Glance provides the discovery, storage, and retrieval of OpenStack Nova Virtual Machine images.

• Nova provides virtual services as required. This is similar to Rackspace ECs or Amazon EC2.

In the future, sub-projects of the web interface and sub-projects of the queue service will appear.

Cloud Provider Conceptual Architecture

To build your own Iaas cloud environment and provide it to users, you need to provide the following features:

1. allows application users to register cloud services, view usage and bills.

2. allow developers and developers to create and store custom images.

3. allows developers and developers to start, monitor, and stop virtual machine instances.

4. allows operators to configure and operate cloud infrastructure.

What can OpenStack do?
OpenStack can help us establish our own IaaS and provide services similar to Amazon Web Service to users:
Common users can use it to register cloud services and view their operation and billing information.
Developers and O & M personnel can create and store custom images for their applications, and use these images to start, monitor, and terminate instances.
Platform administrators can configure and operate networks, storage, and other infrastructure
