I recently read "project management art". Get a very important message: schedule is one of the important factors for project success!
The schedule provides a form of contract between every person on a team or in an organization, confirming what each person is going to deliver over the next week, month, or year.
This includes three purposes of Schedule:
1. A form of contract. for project team members, this is the contract of their short-term work and must be completed within the term.
2. Teamwork helps the project team members understand their work progress and whether their own progress will affect others' progress.
3. Tracking progress is being watched by the Project Manager and project team members.
The delivery of results in the next year is too long! However, the long-term goal cannot be left blank. Otherwise, the goal will be lost after the recent goal is completed. More importantly, how can we change the forward goal into a gradual and progressive target, and split large and complex projects into small and simple tasks.
A long and distant schedule may eventually guide the project toward failure. Of course, both new development methods and traditional methods are applicable to the combination of short-term and long-term goals.
