Problem

My unit has an IBM DS400 disk array, received an IBM server, from my computer can see that there are two large-capacity partitions, but once in a while (may be a power outage), do not see one of the large capacity partitions, suspected of a set of arrays dropped.

Start the server with ServeRAID 7 and view the results as shown in Figure 1234, prompting the "identify physical drive 1" operation for a ID1 hard disk with a red X: "Could not blink the device lights"

The array is divided into two groups, each group of 5 hard drives, and now when the power is switched on all the hard drive lights will be lit, but after the self-test is complete, only the first group of the top four hard drive lights flashing.

How can I restore a disk array without compromising existing data?

Answer

This situation is more common, cause many reasons, there may be hard disk damage, loss of raid information and so on.

If the raid information is lost, data can be recovered, through the diagram and your description is not difficult to see, is the two groups of RAID, each RAID each partition a logical DRIVER, specific how to organize, temporarily not sure, but if the hard drive is not a failure, only through professional data recovery means can be restored.

If there is a problem with the hard disk, to analyze what is the reason, usually SCSI hard drive may have failures: bad track, firmware damage, head/motor damage, etc. Bad track and firmware damage can usually recover data, but the head/motor damage will need to open the replacement of damaged parts, determine the success rate of more factors. The probability of a hard drive head/motor damage is low after a raid failure, so don't worry about it.

From a professional point of view, the advice for your situation is:

1, if you can make a full backup of the hard disk, backup way see:

2, if the full backup, you can try to use the ServeRAID CD-ROM guide, do a forced line, or the original RAID structure to rebuild the second group of RAID. (The prerequisite is that the system also sees the hard drive)

3, if still not. Recommended with a mirror to find a professional data recovery company to deal with.

4, after data recovery, and then new raid, the data back.
