The processor can support video resolution of 2560x1600, and its unique technology can also be used when users read E-books and Web pages to enhance screen refresh efficiency, so as to save electricity.

Samsung said it would start mass production of the product in the second quarter of 2012. A spokesman for the company did not disclose when a device using the processor would appear.

Samsung was the first chip maker to adopt the CORTEX-A15 architecture, which was launched in September this year. ARM's processor architecture has been adopted by Apple's iphone and ipad.

ARM expects CORTEX-A15 smartphones and tablets to be available by the end of the year or early next year, initially with dual-core design, followed by four nuclear designs. The architecture also focuses on the PC and server market, and can scale up to 2.5GHz and 16 cores.
