Teach you how to use Photoshop to make moving axis photographic effect

Moving-axis photography (Tilt-shift photography) refers to a photographic work that presents a miniature model of the real scene. This kind of photograph usually needs to use the moving axis lens, sometimes also needs to use the digital later to produce the shallow depth of the effect. This article teaches you to create a moving axis photographic effect in Photoshop.

This is a hands-on "fool" tutorial, even if you do not have the basis of Photoshop can be completely done. The software used in this paper is the Photoshop CS2 of Windows platform.

1. Choose the right photo

When choosing a photo to make a moving-axis photographic effect, follow one rule: A miniature model is usually a view. So choose a picture overlooking the angle. If there are buildings, roads, transportation, railways and so on in the photo, it will be better, and the scope of the photo scene should be reasonable.

In this article we chose a photo taken in New York Times Square.

Even without the added effect, it's not difficult to think of this picture as a model scenario. The selected photos should be clean and accurate to the exposure.

2. Enter the quick mask

After you open the photo in Photoshop, press the shortcut key Q to enter the quick mask.

3. Select the Gradient tool

Select the Gradient tool (shortcut key: G). Select symmetric gradient (the 4th icon before the Mode menu).

4. Draw Line

Draw a vertical line. The beginning is in the middle of the area that you want to keep clear, and the end point is where the picture is completely transition from a clear to a focal effect. The starting point in the picture is on the silver car, and the end points are below the street lamp, drawing the line from the bottom up.

This line is used to determine the gradient range. When you release the mouse, a red area (mask) with a gradient appears in the screen. As shown in the following figure.

5. Check Masks

Before you proceed to the next step, you need to check the scope of the Mask (the Red section). The center of the mask should be a clear range, from here to the edge of the effect of the gradual loss of focus.

6. Return to Standard mode

Press the "Q" key again to exit the quick mask. At this time the screen will appear by the ant line surrounded by two parts, here is going to make the effect of Coke outside the virtual part.

7. Blur into Lens

Select menu: Filters > Blur > Lens Blur

8. Inspection effects and fine-tuning settings

Now you can see the blur effect on the screen. Photoshop preset lens blur effect is also good, but can also be fine-tuned to improve. If you are not satisfied with the scope of the virtualization, you can return to step 4th to select the gradient range again.

9. Exit Lens Blur Interface

After setting the parameters, click "OK" to exit the "lens blur" interface.

10. Deselect Range

The shortcut key ctrl+d to cancel the selection. The Ant line is gone.

11. Hue/Saturation adjustment

Now you need to strengthen the color saturation to emphasize the effect. The model usually has bright colors, so you need to strengthen the color. Select Menu: Image > Adjust > Hue/Saturation (accelerator: ctrl+u).

12. Enhance saturation

In this example, we set the saturation to +40.

13. Turn on curve adjustment

Curves can be used to enhance contrast. Select Menu: Image > Adjust > Adjust (shortcut key: ctrl+m).

14. Adjust the curve

In this example we use a very small s-shaped curve to slightly increase the contrast of the picture. Be careful not to overdo it, in fact this step is sometimes not necessary.

15. Complete
