Teamwork #3, week5, Bing Input Method vs sogou Input Method

At present, there are fewer and fewer friends using five pens on the computer, and it is hard to find a good Pinyin input method. The predecessor of "Bing input method", "Pinyin input method", is a number of basic research achievements of Microsoft Asia Research Institute. The latest Bing input method not only retains the advantages of the English library Pinyin input method, but also integrates Bing's search experience and opens the application platform of the input method. Sogou input method is a Chinese Pinyin Input Method software launched by Sohu. It is the most popular online input method with the highest user rating and the most powerful functions. How are these two input methods? Is it easy to use? Is it superior or inferior? Through qualitative and quantitative analysis, we thoroughly analyzed the two software, compared various aspects, and summarized the strengths and weaknesses of the two software. The analysis results are as follows:

I. Core functions

The core functions of Bing and sogou input methods include input, dictionary, and word memory.

1. input:

1) Long Term Input

Many people like to enter the entire sentence. First, we tested the long-term input function of these two input methods. The following is the performance of the two methods (Note: The above is the Bing input method, and the following is the sogou input method ). After many experiments, we can see that both of these two input methods support long-term input without functional defects.

In addition, both of them have restrictions on the word length and are the same, which avoids the problem of entering words continuously due to accidental press on the keyboard.

However, a large number of experiments show that there are some differences between the two. For example, when testing the following input case, sogou's input method does not correctly provide the words we need.

2) English input

After a lot of tests, both of them have basic English input functions. However, in terms of short words, Bing's input method is obviously inferior to sogou's input method.

Bing's input method also has some advantages. For example, when entering a country name in the pinyin format, Bing's input method can correctly use the country name as the preferred word.

3) enter the URL and email address

Both have the URL input function, and you can use your own search engine to search after clicking search.

However, when entering the email address, Bing input method will display various frequently-used mailbox options after entering @, but sogou input method does not have this function.

4) Intelligent Error Correction

After a large number of case tests, we found that Bing's input method does not have the smart error correction function, while sogou's input method can well complete the smart error correction function.

5) Mixed Chinese and English input

A large number of test cases prove that both of them have the basic functions of mixed Chinese and English input. However, in a few test cases, Bing's input method can provide more accurate words we need, and sogou's input method is inferior.

6) Automatic completion

As an important function of the input method, these two input methods have a good performance in most cases, but Bing's input method is a little better in some specific words.

7) uncommon words

Both input methods have the function of searching for uncommon words. That is, when you do not know the Pinyin of a word, you can enter U + to search for the word.

However, for uncommon words that cannot be split into multiple words, the sogou input method provides the function of searching for the word based on the split of strokes. Although Bing input method also provides this function, it is not explicitly marked, it is not as intuitive as the sogou input method. Most users do not remember the correspondence between strokes and the key position, which makes Bing input method a better choice. For example, we want to enter the word "success:

To sum up, the Bing and sogou input methods have their own advantages in the input of this important function.

2. lexicon:

1) default dictionary

When these two software are installed by default, Bing input method does not download any word library to the local device by default, and sogou Input Method downloads 13 word libraries to the local device by default.

 

2) extended dictionary

After running the settings Wizard to expand the local Dictionary of the Bing input method, the Bing Input Method adds 69 new dictionaries with a total of approximately 0.65 million entries, it involves cultural names, electronic games, economic and financial fields, professional disciplines, lifestyle and entertainment, and urban information. The sogou input method has 21 non-empty word lists after the setup wizard is run, with about 0.412 million entries in total.

 

3) Network Dictionary

However, this does not prove that Bing's input method has an advantage in the dictionary. The Network Dictionary of sogou input method is an important factor that occupies a large part of the domestic market. Its Network Dictionary covers 12 aspects such as urban information, electronic games, and natural science. These 12 categories are further divided into several cell word libraries. For example, there are 0.4 million entries in the sogou standard word library. These 12 categories of word libraries are more than 2.58 million entries in incomplete classification and integration. Therefore, compared with the Bing input method, the dictionary is massive. The most important thing is that the dictionary of sogou input can be created and extended by the user, and uploaded and used by other users. Bing does not have a Network Dictionary.

 

4) Cloud

Due to its powerful computing capabilities, sogou's cloud computing makes its computing results very accurate, its vocabulary is huge, and it is updated in real time, but the client does not need any operation. In contrast, Bing's input method uses the innovative research results of Microsoft's Asian Research Institute, coupled with the unlimited storage and computing capabilities of cloud servers, as well as a more than 0.3 million-entry Chinese Dictionary and new buzzwords, this greatly improves input accuracy and makes group words more accurate and intelligent. However, compared with sogou's input method, there is still a certain gap. Ii. Details1. The V Key of the Bing input method is a very interesting key. We know that only I, V, and U of the 26 English letters cannot be used as the first letter in Chinese pinyin, so we can assign some special functions to them. As mentioned above, the U key of the Bing input method can be used to enter uncommon words. Its V Key provides 11 special features such as hot word recommendations, dictionaries, and symbolic expressions. For example, it is recommended that you list eight popular news items. Yan text can give a symbolic expression, and the movie will give 12 interesting movies. However, sogou's input method is somewhat weak in the V key. It only provides functions to convert numbers into other forms and very simple mathematical computing. However, Bing's input method does not make good use of the I key, which is a little less than sogou's input method. The I key of sogou's input method is to replace the skin key, which facilitates users who frequently change the skin. 2. V mode is a highlight of Bing input method compared to other input methods.
