After the new version of ubuntu 10.04 was officially launched, it was upgraded and re-installed with expectation. In terms of usage, utuntu10.04 has not improved much by 9.10, but has regressed in some places.

 

1. reinstall

Download 1.1

The http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download can download the desired utuntu version 10.04. Generally, a 32-bit or 64-bit desktop version is downloaded Based on the CPU length. You can also download it directly to Sohu or 163 in China.

After the download, check whether the MD5 or Sha values are consistent, which is about 600 mb or more, and then perform the dial.

 

Back up important resources of the existing system during downloading.

 

1.2 installation with USB flash drive

It should be easy to install CD/DVD. Some old computers often cannot use optical drives, but some lightweight online drives do not even have optical drives. You can use a USB flash drive for installation. My notebook IBM T40 is old, and even the USB boot configuration does not take effect. Previously, Windows XP and utuntu 9.10 systems were installed. In Windows, I used ultraiso to engrave the downloaded ISO file into a USB flash drive. After a few attempts to start using a USB flash drive, you can use virtual optical drive to perform wubi.exe, or directly run wubi.exe on the USB flash drive. It is difficult to select CD to start. You need installation help. Wubi copies the system to the hard disk and adds it to the Windows Startup menu at startup.

 

1.3 cannot see the Start Menu

Since my system was previously a dual system, it was guided by grub. Now you have decided to format the file and reinstall it. But every time you enter grub, no new startup options are displayed. In Windows, the system directly goes in.

After several attempts, the boot menu is not displayed in the Windows boot program. Right-click "my computer" on the desktop and choose "properties"> "start"> "start"> "30 seconds.

After the restart, Ubuntu is displayed when you enter windows. In this case, you can insert the USB flash drive that burned ubuntu10.04 into the live desktop, and then install it.

 

1.4 Chinese problems

It took a lot of time for the system to download the language pack from the Internet during installation. But these are all automatic. The installation process is less than one hour. No other difficulties were encountered. Wireless NICs, video cards, and sound cards are automatically driven correctly. However, after entering the interface, I found that Chinese characters are not as comfortable as 9.10. The legend of the Chinese Character Library does not know where it is. Enter the "appearance", modify the font, and change the original default English font to "wenquanyi is black, it looks sharp. However, the font on the console is still unsolved.

 

1.5 Performance Optimization

The startup speed does not feel any progress. On the contrary, resources are insufficient during use. My system has MB of memory and is almost exhausted. So into/etc/rc5.d/, s50saned s50cups S20speech-dispatcher s25bluetooth s to K. Go to "preferences-> Start application" to turn off all irrelevant applications. It is only a little better after restart. But ext4 seems to be less efficient than ext3, and the hard disk will not stop moving.

 

1.6 modify the window close button position to the upper right corner of the window

I wrote a special article to improve the window closing button position.
Because the close button is really awkward in the upper left corner of the window, it is difficult to adapt. Many people use Windows and Linux. In the long run, you can find the maximum value in the window, minimize or close the window, and the system will crash.

Use gconf-editor to modify the value of/apps/metacity/General button_layout, and change close, minimize, and maxmize to menu: Minimize, maxmize, and close.

 

1.6 modify source:

Back up/etc/APT/sources. List

Sudo VI/etc/APT/sources. List

Clear, increase the source of 163 and Sohu:
