Using Microsoft's ReadyBoost technology, we can increase the main memory of our computer, flash memory (USB memory) into virtual main memory. This feature is available in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Using this feature, we can speed up our computer with the help of additional virtual main memory. We can not use ReadyBoost with all kinds of USB memory on our computer. It should meet some minimum requirements to make ReadyBoost technology.
System requires USB memory to be used as virtual system memory
* USB memory should be at least 256 MB
* USB memory or less than 1 milliseconds of access time.
* It should have at least 2.5 MB/s read speed and 1.75 mb/s write speed
Step to convert virtual RAM memory for USB memory
To convert to USB memory virual RAM memory, follow these steps.
1. USB memory attached to the computer (Vista or Windows 7)
2. Click the right mouse button on the USB drive and take the "properties"
3. Click on the ReadyBoost function and application on the tab
Now, if your USB memory meets all the required ReadyBoost features, it will be converted to virtual memory for your computer, and you can see a noticeable performance boost.
To remember, while using the ReadyBoost feature
In Windows Vista, it is limited to 4 GB, while in Windows 7 it is up to 256 GB of additional memory by connecting up to 8 different USB storage. Windows OS Vista does not support ReadyBoost technology at an older age. Currently, ReadyBoost technology is not supported in Windows Server 2008.
