When you plug in a USB flash or a removable hard drive on your computer, does it pop up to the prompt to fix the flash? Although it can be turned off, but it is always a headache, we are now to solve the problem.
Remove the security removal hardware feature
This prompt window is due to the flash memory inserted or the error file in the mobile hard drive, in fact, just click "Scan and fix" according to the prompt. But in the subsequent use, the Hint window appears again, even if there is no error in the device window will bounce out, then we should be at the source to solve the problem.
This and when you unplug the flash memory or move the hard drive, you are not using the "Safely Remove hardware and eject media" option in the lower-right corner of the Windows taskbar. If you use this option, the previous prompt window will not pop up. But this is a bit of a hassle, and the Plug and Play of the USB device is the opposite, can not use this "Safely Remove Hardware" option?
Generally correct way to unplug USB device
Open Device Manager, locate the flash memory that is currently plugged into your computer in the disk drive project, or move the hard drive, right-click the Select attribute, switch to the Policy tab, and you will see two options: Quick Delete and better performance. If the "Better performance" option is selected, it means caching to speed up disk read and write, but in some write applications, you must use "Safely Remove Hardware" to disconnect the USB device.
Two options for USB devices
If the Quick Delete option is selected, no caching is used, which means that once the USB device has been written to work, it can be unplugged without any problems. Therefore, you should select it, and then click OK. Of course, if you unplug the device while writing the file, you will still encounter the previous prompt window.
Has no effect on performance
So how much can performance be affected by not using the "better performance" option? Let's take a comparative test to see what's going on. We use the Pirate ship Voyager GT 16GB USB flash, with CrystalDiskMark to test its disk performance when selecting "Quick Delete" and "better performance" two options.
The top and bottom data are selected for "Quick Delete" and select "Better performance" respectively.
Seq Read
29.10mb/s
29.08mb/s
Seq Write
17.46mb/s
17.47mb/s
512K Read
29.13mb/s
28.80mb/s
512K Write
1.172mb/s
1.333mb/s
4K Read
5.368mb/s
5.222mb/s
4K Write
0.009mb/s
0.009mb/s
Although in 512K random write project, choose "Better performance" faster than choose "Quick Delete" when the speed of about 0.2mb/s, but in the sequential reading and writing, 4KB random reading and writing, the speed of both are not quite the difference. Therefore, it is not obvious that the increase in disk performance by choosing the "better performance" option would be meaningless.
In the same performance, the choice of "quick Delete" policy for USB devices, no need to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option and does not pop-up prompts window, the true implementation of Plug and Play, which reduces the use of USB devices cumbersome operation, but also bring some convenience.
