VMware is working to advance the Vsphere data center and virtualization platform to enable it to support the workloads of Apache Hadoop.
The significance of this strategic move is to help companies deploy, run, and manage the core applications of the Hadoop cluster and its surroundings on a common virtualized infrastructure to uncover the value of large data and provide a real basis for business decisions.
VMware released a new product vsphere Big Data Extensions, you can achieve these goals. At the same time, VMware also formally certified pivotal HD1.0, the commercial Hadoop release on the vsphere run.
In fact, VMware has been working to develop the support of Hadoop technology to meet the development needs of enterprise-class data and software.
Last year, VMware launched the Serengeti project, designed to help enterprise-level users quickly deploy, manage, and extend Hadoop clusters in virtualized and cloud environments.
In fact, vsphere Big Data Extensions is built on the basis of the Serengeti project. It also supports yarn and the next generation MapReduce framework.
VMware, the virtualization giant, also faces a lot of challenges for companies to use Hadoop in virtualized environments, including some executives questioning whether the scheme is still viable in the face of massive data.
EMC, as the parent of VMware, also supports and is keen to exploit open source technology to crack large data challenges.
This April, EMC announced the creation of Pivotal, and released pivotal one, the platform, a service product, designed to provide enterprise-class users with the well-known cloud computing capabilities.
Hadoop is the core component of the pivotal memory data processing technology used to analyze queries.
GE also recently announced its investment in pivotal, hoping to build on its new industrial internet cloud and data architecture through pivotal's knowledge of Hadoop, Cloud Foundry, and memory processing technologies.
The vsphere Big Data extensions, which is currently used with Vsphere 5.1, is a beta version. The official edition is expected to be available before the end of 2013.
