VNC Configuration Detailed

VNC (Virtual network Computing) is the abbreviation for a fictitious network computer. VNC is an excellent remote control tool software developed by the renowned at&t European Research Laboratory. VNC is
Free open source software based on UNIX and Linux operating systems, remote control is powerful, efficient and practical, and its performance can be comparable to any remote control software in Windows and Macs.
VNC is basically made up of two parts: a client application (vncviewer) and a server-side application (vncserver).
First, Windows Server platform Server installation:
To http://www.tightvnc.com/website, download Tightvnc-1.3.9-setup.exe
Install the software and select "Register new TightVNC as a system service" and "Start or restart service" during the installation process.
After the installation is complete, the system will pop up the conversation window, require the VNC password, enter the password after the mouse click OK to complete. When the installation is complete, the VNC service starts automatically when the system starts.

installation, startup, and shutdown of Linux server platforms:
1, installation
Most Linux distributions have a default installation that includes VNC servers and clients, and users do not need to install them separately.
The system I have known and tested is: Centos4.x/centos5.x/rhel4.x/rhel5.x/ubuntu
The above release contains VNC software, as long as the graphical interface is selected at the time of installation. (The default installation is a graphical interface, unless you delete it manually)
2, start
Linux is a multiuser system that allows multiple VNC services to be opened on a Linux system to allow different users to use a single Linux server without interfering with each other.
Each time the VNC service on Linux is started, the system assigns a port number to differentiate between the VNC processes. Without specifying a port number, the system chooses a minimal unused end
The slogan is assigned to the current VNC process and prompts the VNC host name and port number and the VNC process to start successfully under the current terminal.
I strongly recommend that you specify the VNC port number when you start VNC.
Log on to the Linux host: Log in directly, or you can log on remotely. Remote Way please refer to: SSH, Telnet, rlogin and related tools.
Execute the following command under the terminal:
[Dwang@vncserver1 ~]$ vncserver-geometry 1280x1024-depth 24:6
You'll require a password to access your desktops.
Password:
Verify:
New ' Vncserver1:6 (dwang) ' Desktop is Vncserver1:6
Creating default startup Script/home/dwang/.vnc/xstartup
Starting applications specified In/home/dwang/.vnc/xstartup
Log file Is/home/dwang/.vnc/vncserver1:6.log
Prompted to enter the password 2 times, the system prompts to start successfully, and create the related files.
Description
A, the parameter "-geometry 1280x1024" is the set VNC start resolution, the middle of the number x is the lowercase letter "x". Under Linux, VNC service supports any proportional resolution greater than 800*600, please
According to personal habits set.
B, the parameter "-depth 24" is set VNC service color is 24-bit color, the default is 16-bit color, it is recommended to omit this parameter without special needs.
C, the parameter ": 6" Set the VNC port number is 6, when the client connection needs to specify the port number "6", please refer to the following VNC client usage method.
3, VNC service launch advanced
After the VNC is started in the above process, the directory ". VNC" is generated in the user's home directory, where the VNC log files, vnc startup scripts, vnc password files, and VNC process files are kept under the directory.
The process file is automatically deleted after the VNC process terminates.
The Xstartup file is the launch script for VNC, which defaults to starting the TWM graphics terminal and needs to be modified if the user is accustomed to using GNOME or KDE.
The Xstartup file removes the annotation after the following:
#!/bin/sh
[-x/etc/vnc/xstartup] && Exec/etc/vnc/xstartup
[-R $HOME/. Xresources] && Xrdb $HOME/. Xresources
Xsetroot-solid Grey
Vncconfig-iconic &
Xterm-geometry 80x24+10+10-ls-title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
TWM &
To change to the GNOME graphics terminal,
TWM &
To
/usr/bin/gnome-session &
To change to a KDE graphics terminal,
TWM &
To
/usr/bin/startkde &
4. Shut down VNC service or reboot
Log on to the Linux host: Log in directly, or you can log on remotely. Remote Way please refer to: SSH, Telnet, rlogin and related tools.
You can also operate at any one of the VNC client terminals
After logging in, execute the following command:
[Dwang@vncserver1 ~]$ Vncserver-kill:6
The above command will turn off the VNC service on Port 6th, and only users starting Port 6th will be able to turn off VNC service with a change of command.
Under what circumstances the VNC service needs to be shut down:
The VNC configuration under Linux relies on startup script and startup parameter settings and cannot be changed after startup, so it is necessary to change the VNC configuration to restart the VNC process after the VNC service has been shut down.

Third, Windows Client connection VNC server
Install Tightvnc-1.3.9-setup.exe on Windows, which contains VNC clients.
1, Windows Client Connection Linux under the VNC service
Click Start->programs->tightvnc->tightvnc Viewer, the following dialog box appears: this.width=500; "border=0>

In the dialog box, type "host name: VNC port Number" or "IP address: VNC port number"
For example:
Vncserver1:1
192.168.0.4:6
The three options below the dialog box are set to the network speed, which is only related to the display effect.
Then click "Connect" on the line.
2. Windows client connects to VNC service under Windows
Ditto, the only difference is that you just need to fill in the host name or IP address on the line.
Description: Windows is a single-user system, so the port number of the VNC service started on Windows is always 0. The VNC client default port number is 0, so just fill in the host name or IP.

Four, Linux client connection VNC server
1. Use default client software
Under the Linux terminal, execute the following command:
[Dwang@vncserver1 ~]$ Vncviewer
Will pop up similar to Windows Vncviewer dialog box, the following actions and Windows VNC Client operation is not much different, please refer to the above
