Q: What is a bitmap? What is a vector graph? What does it matter?

A: Almost every person who just contact graphic design will ask this question, from my experience to this road, I think even if you do not understand what is vector map and bitmap, the impact on your learning design software is not small, of course, can understand the best.

Bitmaps, also called raster graphs, are generally used for image processing of photographic quality, and are made up of many pixels like small squares. indicated by the position of the pixel and the color value, it can show the change of Color shadow.

To put it simply, a bitmap is a pattern made up of countless color points, and when you zoom in infinitely you will see a piece of pixel color, and the effect will be distorted. Often used in picture processing, film and television wedding effect map, such as commonly used photos, scans, digital photos, etc., commonly used tool software: Photoshop, painter and so on.

Photoshop mainly deals with bitmap images. When you work with bitmap images, you can optimize small details, make significant changes, and enhance the effect. Bitmap images, also called dot-matrix images or drawn images, are made up of individual points called pixels (picture elements). These points can be arranged and dyed differently to form a pattern. When you enlarge a bitmap, you can see countless individual squares that make up the entire image. The effect of enlarging the bitmap size is to increase the number of individual pixels, making the lines and shapes appear uneven. However, if viewed from a slightly farther position, the color and shape of the bitmap image appear to be contiguous. Since each pixel is individually stained, you can produce an approximate photo-like effect, such as deepening the shadow and aggravating the color, by manipulating the selection of regions at each pixel frequency. Shrinking the bitmap size also distorts the original image, because it reduces the overall picture by reducing the pixel. Similarly, because bitmap images are created in the form of arranged pixel aggregates, it is not possible to operate separately (such as moving) the local map.

Focus on resolution when working with bitmaps

When working with bitmaps, the quality of the output image determines the resolution set at the start of the process. Resolution is a general term that refers to the size of the details and information contained in an image file, as well as the level of detail that the input, output, or display device can produce. When manipulating bitmaps, the resolution affects both the quality of the final output and the size of the file. Processing a bitmap takes a leap of the line because the resolution you choose for the image usually accompanies the file throughout the process. Whether you are printing a bitmap file on a DPI printer or on a 2570dpi imagesetter, the file is always printed at the resolution size when the image is created, unless the resolution of the printer is lower than the resolution of the image. If you want the final output to look the same as it appears on the screen, you need to understand the relationship between the resolution of the image and the resolution of the device before you start working. It is obvious that vector graphs need not be considered so much.
