Today we have a guest editor Steve is travelling to England.
all right.,I know the simplest answer is the database administrator.,But what's the role??What would you say if you had to describe it as a non-technical person?have aDBAthere can be many different roles and functions. I've seen some characters or features./to do is:installationSQL ServerManagement Server performance includes the right to disk space utilization, backup, administrative control, and user access/role,manage replication and uninterrupted/multiple failover clusters and performance tuning/Index,SQLwork, alerts, Database Mail,Publish Database Scripts. I think these can be described as coreDBAthe responsibility.
I've seen it.,It depends on the size of the company you work for .,someDBAsome of the additional responsibilities. Things can be described as more database developers such as creating tables, views, functions, and storage parts. Or something more in the Data architect field.,such as database design, schemas, tables, normalization keys, and indexes. Sometimes, the DBAMay manageSSISPackage, make data and/or from the database. Other times they may need to do some reports may useSSRSor other reporting tools. When you move toBIView,There may be a data warehouseETLpackage Management. I'm sure there are other things.DBA,I missed it.
in my previous job I was hired to do database development as well. Net developers. That's a very small shop , Most of my database experience. I knew before I installed SQL Server, set up backup and manage SQL server performance, and so on. I spent nine years in that job , about two-thirds of my job was to do DBA, database architect or database developer working for the company I worked for , or for their customers. No one asked me to do it , I just jumped in the need I saw.
now some people, minimum work target. They just try to keep skating under the radar. These people, when theyDBA,may be to do a proper job. Database server run, etc.,but that's not what I want to define aDBA. I think a well-definedDBA,people willing and ready, out of their job description. Their responsibility for managing the core, but also willing to lend a helping hand to some of the other aspects mentioned above, can be thought of asDBA's work. They are not afraid to learn/try something new. They're team players .,want to see a project succeed and they're willing to roll up their sleeves,Get your hands dirty in the process.
How would you define a Dba? What roles and responsibilities do you have in your current job? ?
What is your definition of DBA?
