July 4 News, foreign media reports, according to Internet Research Institute Hitwise recently released data shows that the search business for Yahoo seems not as important as imagined.
For Yahoo investors, the issue is important because Yahoo has just rejected Microsoft's request to buy its search business. The reason Yahoo rejects Microsoft is that selling the search business will threaten Yahoo's user experience, as well as search and display advertising business.
But Hitwise Vice President Hither Hopkins (Heather Hopkins) believes that the loss of search business on Yahoo's impact is not very large. According to the June user traffic, Hopkins ranked Yahoo's 20 major services. As a result, the traffic ratio of the search business accounted for only 12.l%. By contrast, Yahoo Mail accounted for 37.5% of the traffic, Yahoo's home page accounted for 30.6%.
In addition, Hopkins also conducted a survey of the source of traffic from Yahoo's 20 major service sites. The results found that more than 6 users of the major sites through the Google search engine to access services. Yahoo Answers, in particular, has 49% of its June traffic from Google, and only 20% from Yahoo's search.
To that end, Hopkins concludes that the search business is not as important as Yahoo thought. It is reported that Microsoft had recently proposed: 1 billion of dollars in cash to buy Yahoo search business, and then use 8 billion of dollars to buy Yahoo 16% shares, the result was rejected by Yahoo.
