In English articles about email marketing and email lists, there are often some professional words or abbreviations, which are common: PEM, uce, opt-in, double opt-in, opt-out and so on. Some of these terms may not have very appropriate Chinese words. According to the author's personal understanding, in the book "email marketing" (www.emailmarketing.com.cn), these terms are explained as follows for reference only.
PEM: the abbreviation of "permission email marketing", that is, "Licensed email marketing. For example, the internal list email marketing and external list email marketing paid to professional service providers described in this book are specific manifestations of licensed marketing.
UCE: "unsolicited your cial email" (UCE) corresponds to "permission email marketing" (PEM), which is literally translated as "unsolicited commercial email ", this is also a non-licensed email, which is commonly referred to as "spam". "spam" and "junk email" are commonly used in English.
Opt-in: this is a simple way to allow users to manually enter their email addresses and add them to an email list. Opt-in can be divided into two forms. One is that the website does not need to send email notifications after you enter your email address in the subscription box on the webpage, if the email address is successfully added to the email list, the website will immediately send an email notification to the user after you enter the email address and click "OK, if the user does not want to subscribe to the service or does not subscribe to the service by himself (for example, an incorrect email address entered by another user or a prank), you can exit the list according to the instructions in the confirmation email, or click a URL, or reply to the confirmation email. Here we refer to opt-in as the "one-way confirmation" email list (although not all opt-in emails have confirmation notifications ), this is also to correspond to "double opt-in.
Double opt-in: the literal name is "Double selective addition", which corresponds to "opt-in" (one-way confirmation). Here it is called "two-way confirmation" Mail list. As we introduced in Case 2-3, when you enter your email address and click "OK", the Program for adding to the email list is not completed, the system will send a confirmation email to the user's mailbox. Only after the user clicks a link or replies to the email according to the instructions in the email can the list program be added. In this way, you can avoid adding the wrong email address to the Mail list. In addition, you can avoid adding malicious emails to the Mail list with others' email addresses, therefore, to some extent, the spread of spam is blocked, especially on the third-party professional mailing list distribution platform, thousands of mailing lists are running. If two-way confirmation is not adopted, it is easy to cause spam flooding.
Opt-out: the email list is called "Voluntary Exit. It is a bit strange to add the email list but use the word "exit". It can be seen from the literal meaning that the user license using opt-out is not formal. The basic method of opt-out is as follows: the website adds the user email addresses collected by itself to an email list, and then, without the user's permission, the email content is sent to the users in the list. The unsubscribe method is available in the email. If you do not like the content, you can exit the email by yourself. The operation methods for opt-out are also different. Some websites send an email to the user after adding the user to the email list, telling him that the user has been added to the email list. In this case, whether or not users are allowed to "voluntarily withdraw", there is actually a certain degree of coercion, which is somewhat different from the licensing principles of email marketing, it's similar to spam in the pure sense.
