We've summed up a lot of experience in the long term use of Outlook Express 5, and here are some of our selected offerings.
1. Establish multiple user identification
If you have multiple users working with Outlook Express, how can your individual letters not be seen by others? Click File in the menu bar, select Add new ID in identity, click New, and enter an identification name (preferably a password).
2. Back up your email and address Book
If a large number of letters in your Inbox need to be backed up safekeeping, click Start, select files or folders under Find, fill in "*.mbx" at the name (mbx file is the mail file), click "Find Now", and then copy the Inbox file to the location where you want to save the backup file. If you want to save the e-mail address in your favorite address book elsewhere, look for the name *.wab, and other ditto.
3. Flexible use of "mail Rules"
Click Mail Rules under the Tools menu to help you make the rule that Outlook Express will follow set rules when the set conditions are met. Delete an e-mail message if it contains a word in the subject.
4. Change the layout of the window
Click Layout in view, select the component you want, and point to OK. You can also customize toolbar items or change icons by pressing the Customize toolbar.
5. Show hidden messages
If you find the messages in your Inbox inexplicably missing, don't panic, they may be hidden, select Current view in view, change "Hide Read mail" to "Show all messages," and see what happens.
6. Rejection of oversized letters
First click on the menu "Tools" and select "Mail" in "Mail Rules". Then in the Select Rule Condition column, select if the message length is greater than the specified size, prompt for the length in the Rule Description column, click Do not download from server in the Select Rule action, and then select OK.
7. How to get the message sent/received
Outlook Express will pop up a Send/Receive Message dialog box when you click the Send/Receive button. You just click on the mouse button in the lower right corner of the dialog box. This dialog box stays on the window and displays the information and the end result of the message being sent and received, Tell you how many emails have been received and sent. If an error occurs, you can click the Error tab in this dialog box to view the error message.
8. Keep a copy of the message on the mail server
Click Account in Tools, select Mail, press the Properties button, and then click "Keep a copy of the message on the server" before "advanced".
9. Automatically compile serial number
Click the "New Mail" button on the mouse. Fill in the recipient address and subject, move the cursor to the body, select menu "format", check "Rich Text (HTML)" is selected, if it is selected, use the mouse to select "Bulleted list" in "style". Later, when you write the content, press ENTER, and the beginning of the next line is automatically numbered.
10. Automatic completion of e-mail address
Press tools, click Options, and tick the "Automatically complete e-mail address when composing a message" under the "Send" interface.
11. Someone asked: "My friend received my letter, but he could not see the picture in the letter, why?" Press tools, click Options, and press HTML settings to determine whether the "Send pictures with Messages" Item is selected. If there's no choice, that's the problem.
12. Delete attachments in forwarded messages
If you want to forward a letter, and do not want to send the attachment in the letter, you can select this message, press forward, right point attachment bar, select "Delete".
13. Set priority for sending messages
If the message you want to send is very important and you want to be highly noticed by the recipient, you can set the priority of the message you are sending to the highest level by selecting mail-Set priority-high in the menu.
14. Add beautiful stationery to the message you want to compose
Click Mail on the menu, select New Mail usage, and select the stationery you want in the expanded menu list to compose a message with beautiful stationery. If you select the Choose Stationery menu item, you will have more stationery to choose from in the Open dialog box, and you can also create your own stationery or edit existing stationery.
15. Add stationery to the message you are composing
Click Format-Apply stationery in the menu, and select the stationery you want in the expanded stationery list to apply this stationery to the message you are composing.
16. Mark Important Messages
If you receive and process a large number of messages every day, some of them are more important and less important, and you can use the flagged message feature provided by Outlook Express to mark important messages for later review. By clicking the message with the mouse, and then selecting "Mail"-"Mark Mail" on the menu, you will notice that the message is tagged with a "small red flag" sign. Click this small red flag flag to remove this tag.
17. Block Sender
If you receive a message that you do not want to receive, you can select the message and then select "Mail"-"Block Sender" from the menu, prompting you that future messages from this sender will be blocked from receiving and automatically added to the Blocked Senders list. Also prompts you whether you want to delete all messages from this sender in the current folder immediately.
