My SQL 2008 will be upgraded to SQL R2 today as needed.

Speaking of why upgrade is because, from another machine backed up a database, to my machine when the restore Prompt "System.Data.SqlClient.Sqlerror: The database was backed up on a server running version 10.50.2500, which is incompatible with this server (running version 10.00.1600). Either restore the database on the server that supports the backup, or use a backup that is compatible with this server. ”

After some verification, we know:

The so-called 10.00.1600 is actually SQL 2008.

10.50.1600 is actually SQL R2

10.50.2500 is actually SQL R2 SP1

This is basically clear.

I have to upgrade my database to SQL R2 SP1.

This article takes me through the process of upgrading to SQL R2 in detail, and the next article describes the upgrade R2 to R2 SP1.

The first step: Prepare the installer.

First, SQL 2008 is installed.

So just download the SQL R2 installer, as follows: http://care.dlservice.microsoft.com/dl/download/1/E/6/ 1e626796-588a-495c-917b-321093fb98eb/2052/sqlfull_x86_chs.exe?lcid=2052&ptype=pcare

Step two: Upgrade starts. SHOW time!!!

1, If you upgrade from SQL2008 to sql2008r2 then you can only select the left "install" corresponding to the right "from SQL SERVER 2000,sql 2005 or SQL 2008 Upgrade" This option to upgrade.

It is also noted that there is a "maintenance" but this option is "upgraded from SQL 2008 Other such as Express version"

Here, distinguish clearly.

2. The installation program supports rule checking. Proceed to the next step after passing it.

3, enter the product key, this place, your key is what version, after loading your database is what version: Like Enterprise version, development version and so on.

4, the license terms must accept, otherwise people don't let use AH ~ ~ ~

5, the installation program support files.

6, program support rules after the installation of the program will automatically detect whether the installed files meet the requirements.

7, when you have only one instance of the server, you can hardly hear the word instance, people call him "database" directly. Only when you have more than two instances installed on the server can you hear the word "instance" more.

However, "instance" must be familiar with the process of learning the database!!!

Here, select the instance you want to upgrade. The next step would be fine.

8, previously installed components (component) will appear here, no tube, before, and now of course, have to, close your eyes click "Next" Bar!

9, because is the upgrade installs, so your previous instance name is what, here still is what. Continue to "next".

10, no nonsense, "next".

11, whether to send error report, casually, next.

12, "Next".

13. Click "Upgrade" button to upgrade, wait about 20-30 minutes to complete.

During the upgrade process

14. The installation is successful and requires a reboot. Restart it, no, say it!!

15, restart, start ssms (SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT STUDIO) on the landing screen will be immediately aware of the difference, SQL 2008 became SQL R2. (a lot of netizens told me, wow, my this did not upgrade success, because this place did not " R2 "The word---actually doesn't matter, see next, as long as the kernel version number is 10.50.1600 then you upgrade successfully)

16, connect the database engine, in the left navigation bar can see your database version. This time it became 10.50.1600. If you also want to upgrade to 10.50.2500. Then go ahead and install an upgrade patch!

At this point, 10.00.1600 upgrade 10.50.1600 has been successfully completed.

To summarize:

10.00.1600 is SQL SERVER 2008

10.50.1600 is SQL SERVER R2

This it is about upgrading the installation, if you want to do a fresh installation, please follow the following steps:

First, uninstall SQL SERVER 2008, be sure to uninstall, the database is not like other commonly used applications (those programs will automatically detect whether the old version, and then to you uninstall and upgrade).

Another: For SQL, if you install it, and then install it again, actually install another instance.
Second, after unloading the installation will be done. The installation---a fresh installation is performed.
