Forward forecast: 21st century will produce eight future technology series A

What happens if eight different technologies are present at the same time. In this respect, Peter Diamandis on February 8, 2016 to discuss his views. Here, I will share a series of blogs with my readers, and in the blog Peter will describe the following areas that will change and be combined to create an unexpected future. So what do these areas include?

Calculation

Internet of Things

Robot/Unmanned aircraft

Artificial intelligence

3D Printing

Materials Science

Virtual/Augmented Reality

Synthetic biology

In the process of knowledge sharing, Diamandis talked about the internet of things, networks and sensors that changed our real society. Diamandis also invited Raj Talluri, senior vice president of Qualcomm's product management, to give us an explanation of the changes that will occur in these areas in the current and near future. Here's what he wrote about.

The entire planet is being covered by an expanding network and sensors, which form the internet of things. The Internet of Things is a network of all the digitally accessible objects that currently have a total of 15 billion, a figure expected to reach 50 billion by 2020. The interconnected devices themselves are composed of dozens of sensors for measuring vibration, position, light, blood chemistry, and heart rate. Now, imagine that the world is moving toward a rapidly growing economy of trillions of sensors, and the Internet of Things is creating a data-driven future in which you can learn everything you want to know anytime, anywhere. This is a world of instantaneous, high-bandwidth, communication, and near-perfect information. But the effects of all this have gradually begun to appear.

The five major breakthroughs achieved recently in the Internet of Things (from 2012 to 2015)

1. The appearance of low power always open type sensor

The surge in the number of open sensors has been one of the major developments in the past three years. "You would be surprised to know how many of your phone's sensors are in the open," says Talluri. Previously, you had to press the button on the phone to say ' Google ' or ' Hello, Siri ', and now you don't have to be so troublesome, you just have to talk to it, and then it will understand what you mean. ”

He continued: "Now, it's all been possible because you're able to keep the low-power sensors listening to you all the time, keyboard probing, and having these sensors responsible for all the data processing work." ”

2. Smartphones drive low-cost sensor growth

The number of sensors in smartphones today is exploding. Talluri said: "At present, the number of sensors implanted in our smartphone is 10, 20, or even 30." When you pick up the phone, proximity sensors, gyroscopes, cameras, depth sensors and so on will work. These implanted sensors have contributed to a reduction in costs and have also driven the discovery of new sensors, as billions of smartphones are sold every year. This is a very big opportunity. "1 billion phones means there will be more than 20 billion sensors, and we're moving toward a trillion-dollar economic development."

3. "System" to integrate the continuous sensor data & cloud processing

Seamless integration of processes is taking place in the cloud and in your device. "When you say, ' OK, Google, ' then the phone will react in part, and the cloud will respond in part," Talluri explains. You don't know where the whole process is going, in the equipment, or in the clouds ... and the whole switching process is so seamless. ”

4.4K video format becomes mainstream

When the screen resolution reaches 4K, such resolution has reached the point where the brain cannot notice pixels. Similarly, when the screen resolution is between 4K and 8K, virtual reality is visually equivalent to visual reality. Talluri explains how the explosive growth of the technology is: "If you buy a TV with a resolution of 4K for viewing content that is 4K, it is very difficult to get back to the 1080 resolution." It's like the feeling that you're still watching the home video system after the DVD has been marketed. Today, we have achieved a great deal in the high-end processor field, with 4 K resolution records of the processor shipments reached 200 million to 250 million. ”

5. The sensor application community is open to third party application development groups

The current reality is that most mobile apps come from third party developers. The opening of the device sensor application interface and the presence of the developer community are the only factors that increase the number of applications (the number of applications per phone may be installed from 50 to 100). ”

So what's going to happen in the near future?

Five major breakthroughs expected (between 2016 and 2018)

In response, Talluri made the following predictions:

Wireless network densification (4g/5g): The cost per trillion will be greatly reduced

In the near future, the cost per trillion of network traffic will drop dramatically-almost free. Tarouli said: "In countries like Indonesia, we find that people's monthly mobile phone traffic plans cost only 5 dollars." In most parts of the world, the price per megabyte is fairly low, as the cost of network creation is falling. ”

2. End-to-end technology drives automatic communication & Security

Soon, your home equipment or working equipment (screens, thermostats, hard disk recorders, computers, even cars) can be seamlessly and automatically connected. You no longer need to consciously decide how to connect the washing machine. When the laundry is finished, you will receive a notification by phone.

3. Global network connectivity via satellite price declines

Qualcomm is working with Richard Branson to deploy a satellite group of 648 satellites called one-dimensional networks. "Global networking via satellite will eventually become a reality ... imagine what it would be like to have 3 billion new users connected to the network every second," Talluri explains. It's going to be a completely different experience. ”

4. Network connectivity of different equipment (individual/family/city) will increase exponentially

"I often ask people: How many IP addresses do you think you have in your home," says Talluri. "Most people are not clear about this problem," he said. They think there may be only two to three IP addresses. But in fact this number is more than 50, television, set-top boxes, telephones, tablets, thermostats, digital cameras, even smart light bulbs and so on. "In the next few years, the number of devices connected to the Internet will be so large that they work in a completely different way," says Talluri. You don't need to have a cell phone to work, just a few sensor networks, you can express everything you want to say and get what you want. ”

5. Rich broadband and sensors will make a major improvement in the head-wearing user interface

In the next three years, we will find that virtual reality and augmented reality helmets will develop rapidly, each helmet will be equipped with 4 K monitors and cameras, and equipped with a high broadband communication sensor kit connected to the cloud. The end result is that all of us are wearing the Magic user interface, this user interface with high-speed communication user interface, so that you can be at home to reflect something.
