Four technical methods to ensure IP QoS

The first concern about the IP network quality is from the real and false IP Phone. According to industry insiders, there is no real IP Phone in China in a strict sense. China Netcom, China Telecom, or China Unicom, which has established the world's largest IP network, all violate the definition of a real IP phone when the IP Phone Fee is lowered. In the real sense, IP phones are defined as IP data packets going through the public Internet. However, considering various factors such as security and quality, almost all IP Phone operators go through leased lines or some circuit exchange networks.
Aside from the definition of true and false IP phones, how can we ensure the quality of calls if we gradually make mainstream voice in a public network that is "universally available? How to control security? How can operators make profits? Therefore, it is critical to operate guaranteed services on the IP network.
At present, people have been studying how to improve the service quality support capability of IP networks. It mainly includes the following technologies.
1. VPN
Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a point-to-point leased line Simulation Technology on the public data network through private tunnel technology. VPN can provide different service quality assurance for enterprises and make more effective use of Wan resources.
2. Differentiated Service (Diff-Serv) provides service quality support through transmission aggregation in the IP network. Data packets are classified and transmitted at the edge of the differentiated service. A service layer specification (SLS) must be established between different service domains, which is the basis for the transmission status of the edge router.
3. Traffic Engineering
Traffic Engineering (Traffic Engineering) is a process that controls how transmission streams pass through the network to achieve optimal utilization of network resources and ensure performance. The cause of traffic engineering is that the routing algorithm of the shortest path causes congestion on some routes, but some routes are not used. In the past, traffic engineering was based on the layer-based model, that is, the IP address is placed on a connection-oriented network technology. What is typical is that the IP address is placed on an ATM.
4. Multi-Protocol Label exchange
Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) allows you to add a packet header before an IP packet header to establish a channel. This does not process the content of IP packets. A fixed-length label is used to speed up the MPLS switch's route table search and reduce the burden on the switch. MPLS technology introduces better and more complex routing technology and service quality management functions for IP networks. It accelerates packet forwarding, reduces latency and latency jitter, and increases network throughput. MPLS is also a type of traffic engineering.
Nowadays, MPIS and VPN have become the mainstream technologies for IP network applications. They are widely used because they can ensure the quality and security of the network and provide more value-added services, however, there are also some problems that the existing IP network is light loaded most of the time. In the case of network redundancy, network security and quality assurance cannot be guaranteed, therefore, what technologies are used in various situations to ensure the technical service quality of the IP network is still a problem to be solved.
