Objective
Often a friend asks me, "Am I using a FPGA or X-Home FPGA for this program?" Do they have enough capacity? How do they compare their capacity? "Of course, most of the time, when I design for the customer, I will use the highest capacity products directly, because our products are not sensitive to cost. However, this is still a comparison of the two products, simply write some of their own ideas for your reference, if there is a wrong place, also please correct me!
Go to the Chase
To compare Xilinx and Altera FPGAs, it is necessary to understand the structure of the two giant FPGA, because of their respective design, the two FPGA structure is different, the parameters are not the same, but can be unified to the LUT (look-up-table) lookup table.
is the Cyclone IV series of a family of parameters:
As you can see, A's film is using the term le.
It's the Spartan-6 film from X home:
x household is the term CLB as the basic unit.
Let's see how the two basic units are different:
A home of Le such as:
is a 4 input lut+ff composition
And the X home's CLB is as follows:
A CLB consists of 2 slice, and a slice contains 4 6 input lut, so lut=8*clb.
In that case, you can set hired. Ep4ce6 Basic and xc6slx9 a level .... Of course A's film is 4 input lut far inferior to x home 6 input Lut. and X Home S-6 film, a slice inside has 4 lut,8 ff. In short, a slice= of four le. Note that the C5 below is a 4 input lut and x home is 6 input lut, the difference is also large. If the FF is not taken into account, then an X home of the slice=4 a home le. For example, xc6slx16 contains 2,278 slices=ep4ce10 (9000LE) looks. Of course, S-6 's FF was one-fold, reaching 18,224.
In Virtex-5 (most of our designs are virtex,v5v6v7), a slice contains 4 Lut and 4 ff. So purely from the logical resources, S-6 a slice than V-5 slice strong. Of course V5 GTPGTX and so on and IO number is S-6 to catch up. Of course, a home of the Cyclone V series of films, internal and previous generations completely different from the high-end Stratix series decentralized technology, in the new design, it is recommended!
