In order to better use a good printer, many people have come up with a lot of fresh control Shifa, to control the printer to their own requirements for personalized operation. Of course, the author does not, for example! This is not, the author in the process of using the printer for a long time, after careful study and repeated pondering, summed up a few of their own often used to control the printer's fresh Shifa, now they contribute to share with you!

Optimize print bandwidth to increase output speed

I believe that many media have how to improve the printer output speed of the experience introduced, but after a careful look, it's not hard to find out that most of the experience is in terms of optimizing the performance of the printer or printer's computer; in fact, for shared printers, we can also transfer "channels" from the network that optimizes shared printers. Bandwidth to increase the output speed of the shared printer as much as possible. This is not, if there are several shared printers installed on the LAN at the same time, these shared printers in the default state will send some shared printer status information and task list information to the local area network, if this time interval is very short, Each shared printer sends a steady stream of task list information and current state information to the local area network, and it is obvious that this information will take up a lot of bandwidth resources, which can easily cause the actual printout of the shared printer to slow down. Therefore, it is necessary for us to adjust the time interval of sending state information of shared printers, so as to effectively save the bandwidth resources of "channel" of data transmission of shared printers, and to improve the output speed of shared printing. Of course, the time interval for shared printers to send state information cannot be adjusted too much, Otherwise, print users will not be able to know the status of each shared printer in time. To adjust the interval at which the shared printer sends status information, we may wish to follow these steps:

First, click the Start button on the computer system desktop where the shared printer is located, from the pop-up System Start menu, execute the Run command, open the Local System's Run dialog box, enter the registry edit command "Regedit", click the "OK" button, open the system's Registry editing window;

Second, in the display area to the left of the editing window, expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry branch with the mouse, and then select the registry subkey "\system\currentcontrolset\control\print" in the following branch that pops up. In the right display area corresponding to the corresponding "Print" subkey, to see if there is a "serverthreadtimeout" double byte value, if not found the key value, we might as well click the Registry Editing window in the "edit", "new", "Double byte value" command, The new two-byte value name is also named "Serverthreadtimeout";

Next double-click the double byte value "Serverthreadtimeout" with the mouse, open the Numerical Settings window shown in Figure 1, enter the appropriate size interval in the window, for example, enter "60000", means that the shared printer will send a status or task list information to the LAN every 1 minutes in the future, after setting up, click the OK button, and press the F5 function key on the keyboard to refresh the system registry to make the above settings effective.

Use files to prevent others from printing randomly

In many people common use of the same computer office environment, the printer will often be some selfish more serious people use malicious, long-term printer will be overwhelmed. In order to effectively protect the printer equipment, many people want to use the printer restrictions to prevent the printer is free to use! But in this way, other people can easily see that the printer has been manipulated, so it is easy to hurt the feelings of colleagues or friends. In order to politely deny colleagues or friends the right to use the printer, and to let colleagues or friends do not see the printer's access has been done, we can create a clever way of creating files to achieve such control purposes:

For some models of the printer, sometimes we need to open the Printer application control interface, and then through the corresponding interface in order to enable the printer to start the work; now we just have to find a way for ordinary users not to start the corresponding application of the printer, you can prevent others to print at random, The following is the specific implementation step of the method:

First click the Start button on the computer system desktop that the printer is connected to, from the System Start menu that pops up, select Programs/attachments/Windows Explorer to open the local System's Resource Manager window, where you can find the installation path for the printer application ;

Then go to the installation folder where the printer application resides, then right-click the empty area of the folder window, select New, text document from the pop-up right-click menu, and set the new text document name to "Ws2_32", and set the extension of the text file to " DLL ";

After completing the special file creation task above, we try to start the application of the printer, the Windows system will automatically eject the file error prompts, do not know that colleagues or friends to see such a hint, will certainly think that this is the printer application problems, and will not think that this is our way, In this way, we have achieved the polite rejection of other people to use the printer for the purpose! In the future, if we need to run the printer application, just open the System's Explorer window and go to the printer's Application installation folder window to create the previously created "Ws2_32.dll" The file can be deleted directly. However, one caveat is that this method works only for printers that are connected to Windows 2000 and above, and not for printers connected to the Windows 98 system.

We know that the Windows system in the default state only provides us with "LPT1", "LPT2", "LPT3" These 3 parallel print ports, but these print ports sometimes do not meet our needs, for example, we often need to install a number of special uses of virtual printers, In that case, we would need more parallel print port support to meet the installation requirements of multiple virtual printers. In order to get more print parallel ports, we often open the System Registry Editing window, expand the registry subkey Hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows Nt/currentversion/ports, Then, under the Ports subkey, create a new parallel print port such as "LPT4", "LPT5", "LPT6" by executing the new/String value command.

When these newly created parallel print ports are set up, they are not immediately valid, and we also need to run the new print port services by running the relevant DOS commands to enable these newly created print ports to work properly later. When you enable a new print port service using the DOS command, you can follow these steps:

First, in the computer system desktop where you need to create a virtual printer, click Start/Run to open the running dialog box for the corresponding system and execute the string command "cmd" to automatically switch the system working interface to the MS-DOS interface.

Second, in the DOS command line state, enter the "net stop Spooler" string command, and after clicking Enter, the Windows system automatically stops the currently running spool print service temporarily; in the DOS command line state, enter net start spooler String command, the Windows system automatically activates the original and new print parallel ports successfully (as shown in Figure 2) after you click Enter. In the future, when we install a virtual printer with a different function, we can choose the new additional parallel print port. Of course, the steps above can only be valid on a computer that has a Windows 2003 system installed.

Firewall protection shared printer stolen

When a shared printer is connected to a computer that has a Windows XP system installed, we can secure access to the shared printer with a firewall from the Windows system, but there are some slightly higher users who open the firewall's settings window to share the file and printer Features are excluded from firewall restrictions, they tend to easily pass through the restrictions of the firewall to achieve the purpose of secretly sharing printing. In order for the firewall to really protect the use of shared printers for security purposes, we simply set the firewall-related system Group Policy as follows to prevent others from entering the Firewall Settings window to exclude the "File and Printer Sharing" feature:

First, on the computer system desktop where the shared printer is located, click the Start button, and then execute the Run command from the pop-up Start menu, enter the Local System Run dialog box, enter the Gpedit.msc Group Policy Edit Command, and then click Enter Open the Group Policy editing window for the local computer;

Next, display the area on the left side of the Group Policy editing interface, with the mouse, expand Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, network, network connections, standard profile items, and in the right display area area of the standard profile item, double-click the Windows Firewall: Allow file and Printer Sharing exceptions option, open the Property Settings window for this option, select the disabled item, and then click OK, so that other users cannot arbitrarily exclude the "File and Printer Sharing" feature from the firewall Settings page shown in Figure 3. In that case, the firewall can really achieve the purpose of effectively protecting the shared printer security.
