Fujitsu's data center in the United States suffers power outages

A few days ago, the Japanese Fujitsu group's data center in Silicon Valley suffered a recent power outage, resulting in some of its cloud services being interrupted.

According to an email from the media's online world, the power outage of the data center began in August 22. Some customers reported that the impact lasted for several days.

This problem is caused by a fault in the power transmission and transformation equipment, but it is unclear why the redundant backup system does not immediately compensate for power loss.

 

The problem persists.

Fujitsu's large-scale data center in Sunnyvale, California, provides 32000 square feet of elevated floor space and power capacity up to 5.5 megawatt.

This is the first data center in Silicon Valley to deploy a hydrogen fuel cell and provide some of its power. Currently, this data center consumes about 14% of the power from the hydrogen fuel cell.

The data center has recently completed a "millions of dollars" upgrade, with 5 emergency diesel generators and eight UPS power supply systems as backup power. However, even with these additional power protection hardware, Fujitsu cannot avoid "major power failures ". Affected services include Fujitsu TPS5 public cloud, Fujitsu private cloud, and other infrastructure services.

"After a fault occurs, Fujitsu immediately notifies the customer and provides technical support to minimize the impact," the company said in a statement. However, the media online world quoted a customer as saying that the fault and problem lasted for several days before it was finally exposed.

According to a study by Eaton, a power management expert, the California week of 2014 suffered power losses from any other State in the United States. According to the company's calculations, the power outage caused about $150 billion in annual economic losses to the United States.
