As an early developer of the Openbts project, I was very excited to see the book published. This project originated in our living room, and we were not in the telecommunications industry before-just developed some GSM-related digital signal processing (DSP) software, out of interest let us start to contact with early software radio and VoIP, The original aim was simply to see if we could build our own mobile network at a price lower than the GDP of a certain South Pacific island nation.
2008 we released the earliest version of the source code, and then openbts quickly for people's attention and acceptance, it is indeed shocking. Openbts has started to provide cellular services to people on all seven continents, including some small islands, and has entered countless laboratories and universities. It has become a powerful force to grow into a change in the telecommunications industry.
Often when I am asked about the value of Openbts or the importance, this discussion often translates into the technical advantages of software radio and the use of IP technology to replace traditional telecommunications protocols, and so on. But why is openbts and extending to this book really so important?
Nowadays, no one is thinking that mobile phones are not a practical function, and even for many people, mobile phones are as indispensable as water, electricity and petrol. However, so far the global mobile network architecture is still a huge "black box", which is a closed, complex system, can only be provided by a small number of operators. The architecture runs on top of protocols prior to the advent of the Internet, and during these more than 40 years of evolution, it did not take into account the cost reduction and complexity of the implementation.
So Openbts is a very good solution. You can build a cellular network, you can operate a cellular network, and you can learn how cellular networks work. The technology used to build a network is no longer expensive, and large organizations or organizations are not able to make a technical blockade.
Learn from here and please enjoy your cellular network tour of the world.
