* To play the advantage of NetBeans IDE 6.0 's Java EE 5 performance, use an application server that is fully compatible with the Java EE 5 specification, such as the Sun Java System Application Server 9/glassfish.
This tutorial is customized for the GlassFish V2 application server. If you are using a different server, refer to the release notes and FAQs for known issues and workarounds.
Start a project
Projects are equivalent to the working environment of your Web application. When you create a new Visual Web JSF Application project in the NetBeans IDE and you have specified a GlassFish V2 or newer version, the IDE creates a Java EE 5 that uses the JavaServer Faces 1.2 component Web application. By default, this Web application is created in a directory structure that conforms to the Java Blueprints project specification for Web applications.
Try
Use the appropriate steps in the following list to start the IDE:
Windows, solaris and Linux. Double-click the NetBeans desktop icon.
Mac. On the MacOS, 6.0 executables are installed in the/applications/netbeans/directory. Double-click the NetBeans icon in the folder.
Create a new Visual Web JSF Application project:

In the New Project Wizard, select the Web category and the Web application project type and click Next.
Name the project gettingstarted. Note The default project location. If you like, you can click "Browse" and choose a different location.

For example, the default server is GlassFish V2,java EE 5 is the default Java EE version.
Click "Next".
Select the Visual Web JavaServer Faces Framework and click Finish to create a new project in the default location or in the location selected in step c.
The IDE creates the project directory in the selected (or default) project folder and names the same as the project name.
