First, the use of styles to prepare table of contents

1. Enter the comment text on the following line of the chart object.

2. Use the Style box on the Formatting toolbar to select a style. This example uses Heading 3, or you can use a custom style.

3. Do this for other chart objects that you want to add to the table of figures.

4. Place the insertion point where you want to place the table of figures.

5. Perform "insert" → "reference" → "index and table of contents" → "Table of figures" tab.

6. Click the Options button to open the table of Figures Options dialog box. In the Style Drop-down box, select the name of the style to use for the chart caption. This example should select "Heading 3".

7. Click OK to close the Chart Catalog Options dialog box, which is automatically changed to none in the caption label box on the Table of Contents tab.

8. Set the other options on the table of Figures tab.

9. Click OK to insert a table of figures for the specified style.

Table catalogue using Catalogue entry fields

1. Place the insertion point next to the chart object.

2. Press Alt+shift+o to open the Mark Directory Entry dialog box.

Tip: the "insert" → "field" → "TC" method can also mark table entries, but it is more intuitive to use the Mark Catalog Entries dialog box, and it is easier to set directory identifiers.

3. In the Table of Contents entry box, enter the text you want to appear in the table of contents, select Catalog identifier and level. Finally, click the Mark button to mark it.

Note: When compiling more than one table of figures with a directory entry field, be sure to set up several different identifiers, such as "A" in the picture, and "B" in the form. This makes it possible for word to differentiate between the table of contents of different chart objects. If you want to put all the chart objects in a table of figures, you should set them to an identifier.

4. Keep the "Mark Catalog Entry" dialog box open, and continue to mark other directory entries with the above method.

5. Perform "insert" → "reference" → "index and table of contents" → "Table of figures" tab.

6. Click the Options button, select the directory identifier you want to use in the Table of Contents Options dialog box, and the Catalog entry field check box will automatically be selected, and click OK to close the dialog box.

7. On the table of Figures tab, set other options, regardless of the display in the caption label box.

8. Click OK to insert the table of figures.

Note: In the same document, if you have already inserted a table of figures using a table of Contents entry field, and you insert a new directory with the Catalog entry field again, you receive a prompt to replace the selected directory, click Yes to replace it, or no to replace and place the new directory at the insertion point.
