Word provides dozens of built-in styles, but may still not meet certain needs, and we can create our own style.
First, use the Style drop-down list box
1. To format a character or paragraph, you need to apply this character format to all characters in a paragraph if you want the paragraph style to have a character format.
2. Place the insertion point in a paragraph.
3. Enter the name of the new style in the Style Drop-down list box on the Formatting toolbar.
4. Press ENTER to create a new style.
Note: This method can only create new paragraph styles, not custom character styles, even if you have selected only a few characters in the second step, but are still creating paragraph styles, the new style has the same character format as the selected text.
Second, use the New Style dialog box (for example, to create a new paragraph style)
1. Perform "format" → "Styles and formatting" to open the Styles and Formatting task pane.
2. Click the New Style button to open the New Style dialog box.
3. In the Name box, enter a new name.
4. Select the type of new style, "paragraph" or "character".
5. Select a referenced datum style in the Style based Drop-down list box, or select No style.
6. Set character formatting or paragraph formatting for the new style.
7. If you want, you can specify a style for subsequent paragraphs, that is, when you apply this new style, the new paragraph will automatically apply the specified subsequent style.
8. If you want to use the new style in another document that is based on the same template, you can select the Add to template check box, select the Automatic Updates check box, and as long as you redefine the new formatting for the paragraph to which you apply this style, this style automatically changes and updates all paragraphs in the active document that have the style applied to it.
9. Click the OK button to close the dialog box and the new style will be saved automatically.
Tip: If formatting is only made in the New Style dialog box, Automatic Updates are immediately available, such as setting with the Format button, and automatically updating after saving the active document.
