Using the Compress Pictures command on the Picture toolbar, you can reduce the size of your pictures in your document and save your hard disk space. Action steps are as follows:
1. Select the picture you want to compress in your document (you can select multiple pictures).
2. On the Picture toolbar, click the Compress Picture button (or open the Picture tab of the Format Picture dialog box, click the Compress button), and open the Compress Picture dialog box.
3. Select the options you want to apply.
Select the web/screen item to reduce the resolution of the picture to 96 dots per inch (dpi).
Select the print item to reduce the resolution of the picture to 200dpi.
Selecting the Remove clipping area for pictures item will cause the cropped picture to lose its hidden portion.
4. Click the OK button to compress the picture by clicking the Apply button in the warning dialog box that pops up later.
Tip: Execute file → Save As, open the Save As dialog box, click the Tools button, select Compress picture, open the Compress Picture dialog box, and use it to compress all the pictures in the document once before saving.
